“Studying with Nik for my retake exams was an exciting and fast-paced experience. With his vast awareness in current economic affairs, he constantly challenged me to think outside the box throughout my preparation for the IB exams."
IB Economics student
2006-2011 PhD. Economics, University of Nottingham
2005-2006 MSc. Economics (Merit), University of Nottingham
2000-2004 BSc. Economics with German (2.1), University of Birmingham
I have been tutoring for over 15 years and within this time, I have seen my students flourish, achieving outstanding results in their exams, succeeding in further education and their careers. My main subjects are economics and business and I am experienced in teaching these subjects from A-Level/IB right up to postgraduate level. At university level, I teach all aspects of economics including microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and behavioural economics. I am a specialist in statistics and am able to support students on non-economics courses who require help on data analysis projects.
I have academic affiliation with many of the top economics/business schools in the UK. These include the London School of Economics, Imperial College Business School, University of Nottingham, University of Birmingham, University of Manchester and Queen Mary University of London. I am highly experienced in supporting students with their university applications and am able to provide expert guidance through the UCAS process including university choices, personal statement and specialised reading.
I am experienced with both teaching face-to-face and online. I regularly teach students who are based around the world and use the latest technology enabling video-calling, real-time interactive whiteboards and online learning resources tailored to each student.
I am an award-winning educator achieving the prestigious award of Teaching Excellence from the University of Nottingham. My teaching style has been praised through independent observation. My sessions are vibrant and engaging, encouraging a high- quality working relationship through interaction and a focus on real-life application. An important aspect of my tutoring is mentorship, providing students with important skills beyond learning course material to develop exam technique and critical thinking in order to thrive in a university educational environment and beyond.
I have previously provided tuition in preparation for 16+ entry (Wellington) as well as University entrance exams and interviews (Oxbridge and Imperial).
This student had been struggling with exam technique and in particular, translating her knowledge to exam questions. This was made more challenging for the student by a diagnosis of ADHD at the start of Year 13, which had shattered her confidence. I tutored the student for just over 1 year up to her A-Level exams. In this time, in addition to supporting her knowledge of new material, we focused on exam writing style and time management. By the time the exams came, the student had all the skills and confidence to achieve her best. She was awarded an A* and earned a place at her first-choice university.
This student had a very busy life balancing 4 A-Levels, entrepreneurial projects and doing martial arts at a competitive level. Whilst dedicated to these goals, he often became overwhelmed when deadlines came at the same time. Through the two-years I supported him, I was his academic mentor guiding him through A-Level Economics, supporting his UCAS application and ensuring that he had a balanced approach to all his subjects. The student got an A* (Economics), A*, A, A and fulfilled his ambition to study Economics at LSE.
This student had been struggling with the course achieving E grades in practice tests. Specifically, she had little grasp of basic concepts of the course and didn’t understand how to answer exam questions. In the 6 months that I supported her, we methodically went through the course material and practised mock exams enabling the student to achieve her goals. She was awarded a B and was accepted into her first-choice university.
This student required support with his UCAS application to study Economics and Management at Oxford. Whilst a capable student, he had difficulty communicating his interests in the subject for the personal statement. Through the three months I supported him, he wrote a statement that allowed his academic capability, personal interest and dedication to shine through. The student achieved his goal earning a place at Oxford.
I supervised a student writing his dissertation conducting data analysis as part of his management degree. The student had a clear research question and understood the literature well, but was not confident in statistics. Over an intense two month period, I taught him the relevant statistical techniques, the statistical software, enabling him to analyse his data and interpret his findings correctly. He created an outstanding piece of work that was awarded 90%.
As a university researcher in behavioural economics, I am passionate about asking interesting questions and finding novel ways to answer them. From running laboratory experiments to test how emotions affect financial decisions to collaborating with the London Science Museum to examine how other people’s choices influence our own economic decisions, I have taken economic thinking to new heights. I am a recognised expert in my field and have published my work in world-leading journals.
“Studying with Nik for my retake exams was an exciting and fast-paced experience. With his vast awareness in current economic affairs, he constantly challenged me to think outside the box throughout my preparation for the IB exams. Despite the short amount of time that we faced, he kept me positive and goal oriented and thus we were able to cover a 2-year IB Economics HL syllabus in as little as 3 months. The result was an improvement from a grade 4 to a grade 7.”

“I just wanted to inform you that my son has had 3 offers back so far, one of them was from UCL which is absolutely amazing considering the statistics on how many applications they receive relative to the few places available. He also received an offer from Nottingham which he is also very keen on. We are overjoyed and this is a testimony to the great work Nik did in guiding my son with his personal statement.”

“Nik helped me get to grips with statistics for a module in my osteopathy degree. I absolutely hated stats before but Nik made learning them pleasant and even quite fun, whilst applying osteopathic concepts to them. With his help I managed to understand the relevant analytical tests and apply them to my research – which Nik also gave some very handy pointers with. I still hate statistics but at least I understand how and when to apply which tests and got an A for my exam and research paper. Well done Nik!”
