Our Education Pathway Planning meetings allow you time with an education expert who will advise on your particular situation. For some families, just one hour with an education consultant will provide them with tailored advice and the answers they need to solve their problem. For others, it can be the start of our team providing more hands-on support to help them get to where they need to be. We offer a complimentary meeting to understand your situation, explain how the service works and establish that we are a good fit to help.
During this initial consultation, we will take a detailed brief and answer your outline questions. Your advisor may follow up with specific questions, and shortly after this they will book a longer meeting with you.
When we next meet, we will discuss all of your questions – and probably come up with a few more for you to think about! The goal is to provide a roadmap for your child’s education, discussing the pros and cons of each possible route and the implications of each decision. Depending on the purpose of your Education Pathway Planning meeting, your education consultant will provide practical as well as strategic guidance. Armed with this information, you can then take things alone from there, or decide to work with us further. This new support may include additional consultancy services, such as a schools or university courses shortlist, or some tutoring to help prepare your child for national exams or school entrance tests. We will also recommend an academic, or educational psychologist assessment if necessary.
Education Pathway Planning advisors are part of our SLT in-house team and are well versed in the trends and developments in curricula, institutional reputations, moves in senior teaching staff and management of the all-important transition periods between various stages of schooling and university.
– International Families who have just moved, or who are likely to move to the UK and need help navigating and understanding our education system. They may have little or no idea about which are the best suited schools in their area for their child and how to secure places.
– Nursery and Early Years whose child is at the very start of their academic career. Rather than just advising on how to find a nursery or prep school that ticks all of the boxes, we help you decide what those boxes should be. At this stage, it can often be about selecting the optimal path through the various nurseries and feeder schools and guidance on passing entrance tests and interviews
– Senior School – parents and students often seek guidance on choosing the best senior school for their child and deciding which subjects to specialise in at GCSE or A-Level. They might also want help choosing between the IB and A-Level.
– Students preparing for university often benefit from guidance about university and courses choices, both in terms of which to apply to, or to choose between offers.
– SLT Careers Guidance is often useful for university age students who may be deciding on internships, gap year activities and university courses. We can recommend extra curricular activities that will help to build up an attractive CV.
– Academic Appeals are surprisingly common place and we explain how an appeal will work and what the likely outcomes are
– Wellbeing and SEN – for parents who suspect that their child may have a learning difficulty and want advice on which mentors, counsellors or Education Psychologists to work with
– Change in circumstances – for a whole host of reasons, such as a moving home, separation, or for the benefit of your child, the need for a new school or university can sometimes become acutely apparent.
Many parents who take an Education Pathway Planning meeting go on to make use of one of our additional consultancy services, but there is no obligation to do so. In many cases our advice can simply help you rethink your journey and point you towards additional resources that you might not have had access to previously.
