About Me

Every student has potential; my role is to nurture that ability and help it flourish. As a tutor, I reject a one-size-fits-all approach; instead, I design bespoke learning plans tailored to each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Building a strong rapport is key. I connect with students to understand their needs fully, fostering an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and clarifying doubts. Many students hesitate to ask for help in traditional classrooms; as a tutor I actively encourage curiosity, and ensure difficult concepts are understood.

My passion for teaching is infectious and it translates well to the students as they respond to genuine enthusiasm. My lessons are interactive, insightful, and adaptive, blending discussion, critical thinking, and structured guidance. I like to embolden my students and encourage independent thought.

I pride myself on being a specialist in exam technique. I integrate timed practice, mark-scheme analysis, and simulated exam conditions—especially as we approach the business end of the academic calendar. I challenge students to push their limits, refining both their skills and confidence under pressure. Ultimately, my aim is simple: equip students to excel, not just in exams, but as independent, analytical thinkers.

Recent tuition

Edexcel GCSE History and OCR English.

This was a student I began tutoring just after the Easter Holiday. His mother had told me that whilst his predicted grades were good, he had relaxed and taken his eye off the ball resulting in worrying results for his mock exams. I saw him twice a week from that period where we focussed primarily on exam technique and revision. This was an intense period that he welcomed and rose to the challenge. As his subject knowledge increased, we incorporated exam questions regularly. Two weeks prior to the exams, we worked solidly through exam questions under timed conditions. He achieved an 8 in English and a 9 for History.

AQA English Literature and Language GCSE

This student had a natural inclination towards maths and science; his parents informed me that he enjoyed the logical nature of those subjects and eschewed the humanities as he never seemed to understand how to write the “right” answer. We worked together over a year and in that time, through reading together and engaging with the texts, his attitude changed dramatically. We also worked extensively on creative writing and how to analyse how a writer’s work. He received an 8 in both Literature and Language.

A Level English (AQA)

I began tutoring this student for A Level English (AQA). She had scored tremendously well in her GCSEs but found the jump to A Level challenging causing her confidence to drop leading to difficulties engaging with the texts, Othello and The Great Gatsby. As we started working, I focused on simplifying the concepts that were alienating and focused on discussing the texts. This led to renewed engagement with the subject and a positive attitude towards the texts. Gradually, we began to spend time on essay questions in which I taught techniques to sharpen her arguments and introduce more critical discussion. She went from a predicted C to achieving an A in her final results.

AQA English Literature A Level

After securing a conditional offer to study History at Cambridge, this bright but occasionally inconsistent student sought support in A-Level English Literature to ensure they met their grade requirements. Though highly capable, they sometimes struggled with questions outside their comfort zone, so we prioritised adaptability in analysis and critical engagement through dynamic, discussion-based lessons. By refining their ability to deconstruct unfamiliar prompts and structure nuanced arguments, they grew confident tackling any question—culminating in a well-earned A grade and a successful place at Cambridge.

OCR English Literature A Level

Having previously tutored this student to a Grade 9 in GCSE History, I was later approached to support their transition to A Level English Literature, which they initially found challenging due to the increased depth and complexity. Together, we focused on strengthening their conceptual understanding, refining exam technique, and developing critical engagement with key texts—including Shakespeare’s Richard III and the works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge—while also honing their comparative analysis skills across texts and understanding their respective contexts. Through tailored, rigorous sessions, the student grew in both confidence and precision, ultimately achieving an A grade.

English Literature International Baccalaureate
As an IB English tutor, I guided a student who had struggled with close textual analysis of their prescribed texts (Shakespeare, Fitzgerald, Orwell) as well as working through unseen poetry. The student tended to discuss the plots without providing analysis or their own interpretation in relation to questions asked. We worked significantly on improving their analytical skills and how best to express their points, alongside a focus on PEEL structuring and comparative discussion. Over six months, their marks rose from a 4 to a 6, with noticeable improvement in the unseen poetry paper. We also spent time working on answering questions under timed conditions which significantly helped the student with their exam technique. The student’s final grade was a 6.
Undergraduate 3rd Year
I worked with this student for over their final year, helping them prepare for their coursework which was a series of essays on Post 1950 Literature, discussing the likes of Cormac McCarthy, Caryl Churchill, and Ian McEwan. The student enjoyed the reading but found that she struggled with comparative discussion and tended not to find links that felt applicable for the essay alongside difficulty with critical engagement. Our first few months, we spent time focusing on the comparative discussion and how best to frame their essays. Her confidence grew over time and our lessons on post modernism and ‘The Great American Novel’ proved fruitful. The student went on to secure an upper 2:1.

Hobbies

Football is one of my big hobbies; watching and playing. I enjoy playing competitively as its a form of great exercise whilst also playing as part of a team with a goal in mind. I’ve loved football ever since I was a child and it’s a pastime that will always be in my life, whether I’m playing it or watching it.

I love quizzing! Not many places allow you to display useless facts and trivia in a competitive setting with the occasional chance to win a prize.

Reading is another hobby of mine; I have never looked back since my mother read Winnie the Pooh to me. It’s always a great treat to get into a book and look forward to some quiet time alone when you can continue your book.

TV and Film: Whilst these are passions of mine and is an industry that I’ve worked in professionally, I absolutely love watching a new TV series or film. I also enjoy chatting with friends about the latest things to watch.
