“I started my lessons with Haris in September 2018 and finished May 2019. In that time I learnt and adapted on so many maths skills , Haris improved my ability and it really showed, he also made my anxiety of maths go away! Since the lessons because of his help I've become more confident and less nervous when it comes to maths, and I've learnt so many new things I hadn't known before because of his teaching.”

I have been tutoring since 2014, and specialise in Biology up to A level, Maths up to GCSE and Science and up to GCSE.
I believe in making sure goals are set with a student before any teaching commences. This allows both the tutor and the tutee to understand what is required from the teaching sessions and what needs to be done in each session to achieve the set outcomes.
Pre-planning for sessions ensures seamless transitions when teaching and makes the learning more efficient for students. It is also imperative that the teaching sessions are tailor made for each student as favoured learning techniques differ between students – this ensures that the student learns with a comfortable learning style, helping them reach their full potential.
Through my experience volunteering abroad in less developed countries, where the educational standards are significantly poor, I have been able to assess my teaching abilities with regards to their effectiveness and have been able to see the results first-hand. The children I taught were very responsive and engaged throughout my classes and even though I was challenged by a language barrier, I was still able to help these children learn basic communication skills that will be of great use to them in the future.
For my secondary school examinations (GCSEs, A-levels, medical school entrance examinations etc.), a key aspect of my learning and revision would involve teaching other peers in a small study group. This helped me gain a better understanding of the content for my examinations but also allowed me to learn teaching skills in the subjects I would like to tutor, having experienced teaching peers at a high level.
I was fortunate enough to be able to take a larger role in my school and help students in my spare time. This included helping them learn languages such as Latin, helping them with their classwork, homework and teaching them topics they struggled with to make their schoolwork easier for them. I was driven and motivated to work with these students, discovering a passion to help students progress and excel in their education.
Whilst at university, I tutored for a prestigious centre in North London, carrying out home tuition for GCSE maths and science to students for two years. I was able to learn a lot from this experience and was very successful with all my students. I feel this experience has lead me to understand the workings of a tuition centre and how to best ensure a student is comfortable in this setting.
I have over 300 hours of tutoring experience with students from 11+ to A level. Please find a snapshot of my experience below.
11+ School Entrance Exam
This student aspired to achieve entry into one of the most competitive grammar schools in Essex. I started tuition with them when they finished year 4 and spent 2 hours a week with them. I spent the first few months acclimatising the student to efficient exam techniques which then led us to months of exam practice. The student gained entry into the top grammar school in Essex, their 1st choice.
11+ School Entrance Exam
I worked with this student at the start of year 5 and spent 2 hours a week with them up until their final examination. The student was very able and showed potential but often found themselves getting distracted easily and distracting others during class at school. We focussed on motivating the student and increasing their enthusiasm for the subjects. The student gained entry into 3 top independent schools, all located centrally in London.
11+ School Entrance Exam
I worked with this student for 7 months and spent 2 hours a week with them up until their final examination. The student aimed to achieve a scholarship at one of the best independent schools in Essex. The student was a very focussed and able student, with the parents aiming for the student to perform highly enough to reach the scholarship cut off. We spent plenty of time on exam practice and refining techniques. The student went on to achieve a 20% academic scholarship at their first choice school.
11+ School Entrance Exam
I worked with this student for 3 months in the run up to their final examinations. The lessons alternated between 90 minute and 2 hour lessons. The student wanted a final push to maximise their performance in their final exam. After plenty of exam practice and emphasis on improving efficiency in their techniques, the student gained entry into one of London’s best independent schools.
IGCSE Maths and Triple Science (Edexcel/OCR)
The student attended a local comprehensive and showed potential to achieve high grades but lacked ambition and struggled to revise in an efficient manner. The emphasis, therefore, was invested in increasing the enthusiasm for the subjects and ensuring they were able to get through plenty of practice to accustom themselves to a near perfect exam technique. The student performed averagely in GCSE mocks coming up to the exam (A/Bs) but was able to achieve A* in all of the above subjects.
GCSE Maths and Triple Science (AQA)
This student attended a top grammar school in North London. They lacked interest and motivation in their studies so our tuition focused on exam technique and past paper practice. These were elements that the student began to enjoy as their confidence in the subjects increased. The student improved their results and went on to achieve A*, A*, 8 and 8.
IGCSE Maths and Triple Science (Edexcel/AQA)
This student attends a private school in North London. Upon meeting the student, when they were in year 10, it was clear to see that the student was bright and had the potential to achieve very high scores. However, they lacked confidence due to series of average scores throughout the years of secondary school. The tuition focused primarily on subject areas the student had low confidence in and ensuring the student increased their understanding of these subject areas. Over time, their confidence in the subjects increased and this started to show in their marks. For their recent IGCSE mock examinations, they managed to improve from 5/6s to 7/8s in these subjects. The student recently sat their final examinations and are waiting on results.
IB Biology (HL)
I taught Tayab International Baccalaureate Higher Level between 2018 and 2019. Tayab struggled with motivation when I first started tutoring him, finding it difficult to build an understanding of how to revise for his final exams. He found the step up from GCSE and standard level to higher level quite difficult, so we focussed our tuition on bridging the gap. We divided the revision into chunks to make it easier to understand a large amount of content and then refined this revision with plenty of past paper practice to ensure enhanced memory recall. Tayab did very well in his final examinations and went on to achieve a grade 7.
IB Chemistry (HL)
I tutored Sully International Baccalaureate Chemistry Higher Level, also between 2018 and 2019. Sully hoped to achieve a high grade in his final exams so that he could have a competitive score to achieve entry into medicine at university level. Sully was a bright student who did not realise his full capability. Much of tuition was focussed on building confidence and unlocking his full potential. Sully began to become more passionate about the subject and by tweaking his revision strategy, he went on to achieve a grade 7 and eventually, gain entry into medicine at a top UK university.
A Level, Biology (OCR A)
I worked with this student for the best part of the academic year when they were in year 13. The student attended a grammar school in London and was a very able student. However they were unable to convert their hard work into good performances in examination settings. With the student, we worked on maximising efficiency when revising and focussed a lot on exam technique and practice. With this the student grew in confidence and the performance followed. The student went on to achieve an A at A-Level.
A Level Biology (Edexcel)
This student attended a grammar school in Essex and struggled with learning the content of a demanding subject. Working together with the student, we identified the main gaps in knowledge that required addressing and focussed on splitting the syllabus into retainable sections. The student began to feel more confident in class and participated more, increasing their enthusiasm for the subject as well as motivation to succeed. The student went on to achieve an A during their AS year.
UKCAT Medicine Entrance Exam
I worked with this student for 2 hours a week for 2 months. They required assistance with exam technique and aspired to gain entry into one of the best medical schools in London. We initially worked together on high yield questions and how best to efficiently answer the tougher questions, gaining an advantage in the examination. The student was also given ample time to practice these techniques and become comfortable and confident with them. This showed in the student’s mock exam scores. The student went onto achieve a score of 720, top decile for their cohort and entered the medical school of their choice.
Hobbies and Interests
I enjoy both playing and watching a number of sports. I have always had interest in football, cricket, rugby and tennis since a young age and have tried to keep up with playing them throughout my life to date. However, as a medical student, I have my found free time harder to come by for these activities and so enjoy listening to music, reading books and travelling.
Sport has always been a way to get away from the books and also make sure I’m keeping fit and healthy in an enjoyable manner. Listening to music helps me relax as does reading books. I have recently started to travel to many places around the world which I love as I think it is very important that people should experience other cultures and sceneries that they would not get the opportunity to otherwise.

“Haris is a wonderful talented tutor who has helped me through the GCSE syllabus of maths and science. He is a very punctual person who is well presentable and always trying to help me to do well in my exams and subjects.
He has taught me good techniques to answer questions which i struggles with before. He also designed different ways of working bespoke to my needs. He never worried about leaving on time and always made sure I had work to do. He was very easy to work with and always prepared tasks that’s suited my needs and I would highly recommend him.” GCSE Student
