About Me

I live by the philosophy that the student must be able to explain it back to you in their own words. Technological disruption, such as social media and the rise of AI, are causing notable changes in memory and the brain’s ability to retain information. Consequently, the way we formally examine in education is also changing. For me, a 1:1 tutorial should be an enjoyable conversation. If the student is curious and asking questions, then you are inspiring independent thinking and personal interpretation which is crucial for memory and understanding.

Anyone who has been through the education system knows that teachers can vary in their ability to effectively teach. For me, there are three key areas and qualities that can make all the difference:

1) strong subject knowledge and passion – a clear, confident understanding of the material and enthusiasm that inspires learning

2) clear communication and creativity – an ability to explain ideas in simple, accessible ways (which therefore requires organisation and structured lesson planning) and an ability to use engaging or innovative methods to explain difficult concepts

3) adaptability and empathy – an ability to adjust one’s teaching style to suit different learners, alongside patience, emotional intelligence, and the ability to listen, encourage and motivate

Tutors should reflect on their work as much as their students.

Recent tuition

11+ English, Maths, Non-Verbal Reasoning (Common Entrance exams)

I tutored a Year 5 student preparing for 11+ Common Entrance exams over a 12-month period. Initially, he was working around a mid-range level and found exam-style questions quite challenging, particularly in non-verbal reasoning and mathematical problem solving. We focused on building core exam technique across English comprehension, structured writing, arithmetic fluency, and pattern recognition. Regular practice papers helped improve both speed and accuracy, while targeted feedback developed his confidence in tackling unfamiliar question types. By the end of the process, he was consistently achieving strong scores and successfully secured offers from his chosen schools.

Key Stage 2 Maths

I tutored a Key Stage 2 pupil within a 12-month period, focusing on strengthening core mathematical understanding and closing gaps in foundational topics. Initially, she struggled with times tables fluency, word problems, and multi-step reasoning questions. We worked systematically through number sense, fractions, decimals, measurement, and basic algebraic thinking, using targeted practice and visual models to build conceptual clarity. By the end of the tuition, she demonstrated secure understanding across the curriculum and a much stronger ability to apply methods independently.

Key Stage 2 English Comprehension

I tutored a 10-year-old pupil in English comprehension over a six month period, focusing on improving reading accuracy and confidence with inference-based questions. She initially found it difficult to identify key information in texts and often relied on guesswork rather than evidence. We worked on breaking passages into manageable sections, highlighting key vocabulary, and using short, structured responses to support clearer explanations. Regular practice with a range of fiction and non-fiction texts helped build her understanding and exam technique. By the end of the tuition, she was much more confident in answering comprehension questions with clear, evidence-based reasoning.

GCSE English Language and Literature (AQA)

I tutored a 14 year old right through her GCSEs. Over this two-year period, her English results went from a B to an A*. She was a high-achieving student who was passionate about the subject but had always struggled with exam anxiety, essay writing and Shakespeare. She felt tuition would be useful as she struggled to pick up those extra marks in examinations. We looked at exam techniques, the PETAL method for structuring paragraphs and explored innovative ways to grapple with difficult texts.

A-Level English Language (AQA)

I tutored a student preparing for A-Level English Language who had dyslexia and struggled with spelling, grammar and how to apply linguistic frameworks effectively in exam conditions but also day-to-day. We worked on vocabulary and structuring coherent responses under time pressure. Particular focus was given to discourse analysis and evaluating language use in different contexts. Over time, he became much more confident in constructing precise, focused answers.

A-Level Art & Design (AQA)

I tutored an A-Level Art student throughout her final year, helping with both coursework and exam preparation. She was very creative, but initially found it difficult to refine ideas and consistently meet the assessment objectives, especially when it came to written analysis and developing final outcomes. We worked on shaping her ideas more clearly, improving her annotation, and making stronger links between research, experimentation and final pieces. I also helped her organise her portfolio and manage her workload across longer projects. She achieved a strong final grade that reflected her ability!

A-Level Art History (Edexcel)

I tutored an A-Level Art History student with a particular focus on responding to exam questions and essay writing. She had a strong interest in the subject but initially struggled with structuring essays and applying critical analysis effectively under timed conditions. We worked on developing clear argument frameworks, improving the use of art historical terminology, and building confident comparisons between key movements and artists. Regular essay practice and feedback helped strengthen her ability to analyse visual material in depth and sustain coherent arguments.

Hobbies

I have always drawn and painted, since I was very young, and it continues to be a very important part of my life. I am also an avid reader, particularly fantasy and dystopian novels. I absolutely love history and travelling.

I also enjoy charitable work. I have taught English in several parts of Kenya and volunteered at Mencap, a UK charity that supports young people with learning disabilities. For five years I worked for a Trust that supported young Palestinian women through higher education. I met with the British Consulate in Jerusalem, mentored students in a Palestinian school and photographed fundraising events at the House of Commons. I also set up and ran a corporate social responsibility programme during my six years at a world-leading art advisory firm to help London Youth Groups access the top-end of the art market.
