About Me
My approach to tutoring is highly personalised, structured, and engaging, with a strong focus on building both confidence and independence in each learner. I prioritise developing strong, trusting relationships with the children and families I work with, as I believe this is fundamental to effective learning—when pupils feel safe, understood, and valued, they are far more willing to take risks and challenge themselves. I take time to understand each child’s personality, interests, and motivations, using these to create a positive and encouraging learning environment where they feel supported and motivated to succeed.
I begin by identifying a child’s strengths, gaps, and learning style, using this to tailor sessions that are both appropriately challenging and accessible. Drawing on my background as a qualified primary teacher, I incorporate proven methodologies such as scaffolding, modelling, and guided practice, gradually releasing responsibility so pupils can apply skills independently. I place a strong emphasis on making learning interactive and purposeful—whether through discussion, problem-solving, or creative tasks—so that children remain engaged and invested.
In English, I use frameworks such as VIPERS to develop comprehension skills and structured approaches to writing, ensuring pupils understand both the “how” and the “why” behind their work. In maths, I focus on securing fundamental knowledge before applying it to multi-step reasoning and problem-solving, often using step-by-step modelling and verbal reasoning to deepen understanding. I also adapt my teaching to suit individual interests, using themes and real-life contexts to make learning more meaningful and to engage even the most reluctant learners. Flexibility is central to my approach; I continuously assess progress within sessions and adjust pace, support, or challenge accordingly, ensuring each child feels supported while also being stretched to achieve their full potential.
Recent tuition
English & Maths, Year 2 (SEND Support)
I worked weekly with this student, who has ADHD and is on the ASD spectrum, focusing on engagement, confidence, and understanding questions. Sessions were tailored to her interests to maintain focus. Over time, her confidence and willingness to challenge herself improved, allowing for increased academic stretch.
7+ Style Entrance Assessment Preparation – Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai (Year 2)
I supported this student in preparation for 7+ style entrance assessments for Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai, focusing on English, maths, reading comprehension, and school readiness skills. The student and family, being new to Dubai and the process of entry based formal assessment situations, found the process a little overwhelming at first, so sessions focused on building core skills alongside confidence and engagement. Through tailored, engaging, interactive tuition, the student developed stronger literacy and numeracy foundations and successfully secured a place at the school.
English (Reading & Comprehension), Year 4
I supported this student in building confidence in reading and strengthening comprehension skills ahead of end-of-year assessments. Using strategies such as VIPERS, we focused on understanding and answering questions effectively. He achieved 41/45 in assessments and an exceeding grade, supporting a strong transition to his new school.
English & Maths, Year 5–6 (11+ & CAT4 Preparation)
I supported this student over several months, identifying gaps across the curriculum and improving engagement, particularly in reading and writing. We also prepared for CAT4 assessments and school interviews. The student secured a place at Millfield School, with clear progress reflected in improved school reports and writing outcomes.
11+ Entrance Examination Preparation – Nonsuch High School for Girls (Year 6)
I supported this high-ability student in preparation for the 11+ entrance examinations for Nonsuch High School for Girls, focusing on English, maths, verbal reasoning, and non-verbal reasoning. We worked on developing exam technique, time management, and confidence with multi-step problem solving. Through consistent weekly tuition and targeted practice, the student became far more confident approaching challenging questions and managing her assessment time and technique, and successfully secured a place at the school.
English & Maths, Year 6 (General Academic Support)
I supported this student in strengthening reading and writing skills, where confidence and attainment were initially low. Through targeted support and consistent practice, both her confidence and ability improved. This progress was recognised in her school reports, with higher grades and positive feedback from her class teacher.
English & Maths, Year 6 (SATs Preparation)
I supported this student in preparation for her end of Year 6 SATs, focusing on identifying and addressing gaps in maths and English. Through structured, tailored sessions, we built her confidence and exam technique, particularly around managing assessment anxiety. Over several months, she made strong academic progress and approached assessments with increased independence and confidence, reflected in her results and overall attitude to learning.
English, Maths & Science, Year 6 (GL Assessment Preparation)
I worked with this student weekly in preparation for GL assessments in Dubai, focusing on English, maths, and science. As an EAL learner, she required support unpacking questions and understanding exam language. She achieved top marks, including the highest in her class, demonstrating significant academic progress.
English & Maths, Year 7 (Academic Extension)
I supported this high-ability student in extending his thinking and developing more detailed, sophisticated responses across subjects. We focused on encouraging him to challenge himself and go beyond minimum expectations. This was reflected in his school reports, with grades improving from 6/7 to consistent 8/9s.
Hobbies
I have a range of interests that reflect both my personal values and my experience working with families. I have spent several years living and working in Dubai, which has given me a real appreciation for travel and different cultures. I enjoy exploring new places and ways of life, and this has helped me become adaptable, open-minded, and comfortable integrating into different environments.
I genuinely enjoy cooking and baking, particularly preparing fresh, home-cooked meals and trying new recipes. I value the importance of balanced nutrition and enjoy encouraging a positive approach to food. A big part of my life is my dogs, and I spend a lot of time walking and caring for them, which I find both enjoyable and grounding. I also like getting out for walks in nature and staying active through swimming or going to the gym, although this is more about feeling good and maintaining a healthy routine.
I’m naturally sociable and really value spending time with family and friends, whether that’s hosting, catching up, or simply being together. I also enjoy creating opportunities for children to be active, social, and engaged, and I recognise how important these experiences are in building confidence and independence. Overall, my interests are centred around connection, wellbeing, and creating a positive, balanced lifestyle.
