About Me

My approach to tutoring is highly personalised, structured, and rooted in clear conceptual understanding. I draw on my background in scientific research and teaching to explain topics in a way that balances depth with accessibility. I start each session by identifying the student’s current level and preferred learning style—whether visual, verbal, or hands-on—then adapt my methodology accordingly. I often use diagrams, analogies, and real-world examples to bring abstract scientific concepts to life, which helps students form lasting connections. I break down complex ideas into manageable parts, encourage active questioning, and use regular formative assessments to ensure progress. Flexibility is key: I adapt pacing and content to match the student’s evolving needs, and I can easily shift between reinforcing fundamentals and preparing for exam-style questions. My goal is not just to improve academic performance but to foster curiosity and independent thinking in each student.

Recent tuition

I help students build strong foundations in biology, chemistry, and mathematics through concept-based teaching and targeted exam practice. I prepare students for GCSEs and A-levels, with a focus on those aiming for top independent schools or selective sixth forms.

At the university level, I offer guidance for students applying to science-based courses, especially in biological sciences, neuroscience, and medicine, drawing on my own academic background and PhD experience. This includes support with personal statements, admissions tests, and interview preparation for competitive UK universities, including Oxbridge and Russell Group institutions.

Below are several examples of my recent tuition.

GCSE Combined Science (Edexcel)

This student was preparing for GCSE Combined Science and required support in all three disciplines. We met twice weekly for eight months, focusing on core understanding, exam technique, and confidence-building. Through consistent progress checks and visual learning tools, the student improved from grade 5s to an 7 in their final exams.

KS3 Science (Mixed topics)

I tutored this student in KS3 Science over the course of one academic year. They were bright but lacked confidence in applying scientific ideas to unfamiliar problems. We used practical examples, visual aids, and regular low-stakes quizzes to reinforce learning. By the end of the year, the student was confidently working above expected level and prepared to transition smoothly into GCSE science.

GCSE Biology (AQA) – SEN Support (dyslexia)

This student had dyslexia and was struggling to keep up with the volume of content and exam language in GCSE Biology. We worked together for six months with a tailored approach that included multisensory learning tools, coloured overlays, and audio-visual aids. I simplified key terminology and used scaffolded questions to build confidence. The student progressed from a grade 4 to a 5, and gained a renewed interest in biology.

GCSE Physics (AQA)

This student was struggling with GCSE Physics, especially in electricity and forces. They found it hard to connect formulas to real-world scenarios. We worked together over six months using diagrams, simulations, and step-by-step breakdowns. Their grade improved from a 6 to an 8, and their confidence in the subject increased significantly.

IGCSE Biology (Cambridge)

I supported this student with IGCSE Biology, focusing on areas such as plant physiology, osmosis, and inheritance. They initially struggled to retain information and apply knowledge to unfamiliar exam contexts. Over five months, we worked on topic consolidation and past paper strategies. The student ultimately achieved an A, up from a predicted B.

A-level Biology (AQA)

I tutored this student in A-level Biology during Year 13. They needed support with complex topics like cell signalling, gene expression, and homeostasis. We used a combination of active recall, past paper analysis, and targeted revision strategies. Over four months, the student’s predicted grade improved from a C to an A.

A-level Chemistry (OCR A)

This student sought help with A-level Chemistry, particularly in organic chemistry and rate of reaction topics. We worked weekly throughout Year 13 using breakdown techniques for mechanisms, and dedicated time to tackling multi-step problems. Their confidence improved significantly, and they achieved an A in their final exam.

University Admissions – Biological Sciences

This student was applying for competitive UK university courses in biological sciences. I provided guidance over five months on personal statement development, academic enrichment, and interview practice. We focused on articulation of scientific interests and data interpretation. The student received multiple offers, including from top Russell Group universities.

Hobbies

Outside of tutoring, I’ve been deeply involved in the performing arts—I’ve trained in Indian classical dance for over 21 years and classical singing for two years. These disciplines have shaped my patience, focus, and creativity, all of which I bring into my teaching. I also enjoy playing sports such as tennis and badminton, which help me stay active and competitive while reinforcing values like consistency and resilience. In addition, I’m currently working on a social enterprise to support street vendors in India, aiming to create sustainable livelihoods for local entrepreneurs. These interests keep me connected to both my cultural roots and broader social impact, and they give me a well-rounded perspective I aim to pass on to my students.

Testimonials

“Her enthusiasm and structured approach made a big difference to my son’s learning. He struggled with concentration before, but she broke down the content into manageable chunks and kept sessions engaging. His test scores improved steadily, and he actually began to enjoy science!”
