About Me

As a specialist cardiology nurse with a background in engineering, I employ a range of well-grounded approaches to simplify abstract concepts into manageable chunks. I see students as the main architects of their learning hence I adopt a partnership approach that leverages on their existing knowledge to enhance their strengths. I thrive in consolidating foundational knowledge prior to establishing new content and I delight in seeing students build confidence and develop deeper interest in the subjects I tutor.

Recent tuition

Key Stage 3 Mathematics

I tutored some twins in Mathematics at Key stage 3. It was a lesson involving two students with different learning styles. I therefore adapted teaching to enhance the strengths of each of them, and provide opportunities for them to peer tutor with supervision to confirm understanding. I tutored them for the most part of a year and saw significant improvement in their understanding of the subject content.

GCSE Mathematics, Edexcel

I tutor a student with additional learning needs who had to change schools in the middle of term. He has a diagnosis of ADHD and this has required significant adaptation of lesson content to be shorter with multiple periods of interaction to ensure his attention is maintained. I use a closed loop communication approach with him ensuring that he feeds back on new learning as lesson progresses. He is developing a liking for the subject.

GCSE Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)

I tutored a year 10 student who was losing confidence in the sciences in the lead up to his GCSE. Tutoring focused on making content practical and simplifying abstract concepts. My aim was to guide him to develop a liking to the subjects as that is core to effectively studying them. In the six months we had together, he moved up a set in his science class.

GCSE Mathematics, Edexcel

This student was already doing well achieving grade 6/7 in math. Over the course of four months, the focus of my lessons with her was therefore to consolidate her exam techniques and filling in content of higher difficulty. She achieved grade 9 in her GCSE maths.

GCSE Mathematics, AQA

I tutored this student in GSCE maths and from the onset established that the core problem were his foundational concepts. We began tutoring with a revision of simple times tables and concepts such as percentages and fractions before attempting higher concepts. In the space of five months of tutoring, he moved up two grade points from 3 to 5.

Hobbies

I am rather homey so I enjoy reading, exploring new concepts, and listening to music. I find the music relaxing and new learning helpful in my specialist role.
