Rush

“I highly recommend Rush as a tutor, the experience I shared with him whilst my child sat the 11 plus examinations was made much easier! Particularly, I felt my son really benefited with the one to one support Rushabh could offer where time was taken to address his individual weaknesses and work through practice papers! In addition, I feel the tutor approach is key and Rushabh’s calm and gentle manner really helped in forming a rapport!”

About Me

I have been tutoring students in a one-to-one setting since 2012. I support students mainly with Maths, I am also able to provide tuition for Business, Economics and Accountancy. More recently I have been helping students to prepare for their Common Entrance exams.

I believe I am able to use my own experiences and academic success to motivate and inspire my students. I get the best out of them and allow them to embrace the topic areas where they are weakest and help them develop their strengths in a way that is enjoyable and focused at the same time.

I provide an extremely in-depth level of teaching which allows students to gain an optimal amount of knowledge from a short space of time. I am an enthusiastic tutor, adapting my teaching style towards the personality of my students, which helps students to achieve their potential and reach a higher level of knowledge and success. The approach to teaching I apply involves being friendly, approachable and providing positive reinforcement.

Recent tuition

I have supported over 50 students individually, working with students from Year 6 through to undergraduate level. Here is a range of case studies to demonstrate my tutoring experience.

Year 4 Maths (SEN Dyslexia)

Tom was a dyslexic child who struggled with mental arithmetic and general mathematical terminology. He would often make silly mistakes when performing calculations so I would continuously encourage him to check answers against the question to improve his accuracy. I also pushed Tom to verbalise and talk his way through each step of mathematical problems, which he found very reassuring. I also inserted keywords on a card index system on the inside cover of Tom’s maths book so it could be used for reference and revision. Tom’s mathematical ability improved drastically, and he recently achieved the highest mark in his end of year Maths test.

11+ Maths

Sabby was an enthusiastic learner and came to me for support with her 11+ exams. She was good at English but struggled with problem solving in Maths. I produced a worksheet with various problem-solving questions for her to practice weekly. This enabled her to gain exposure to a wide range of question types and build up her confidence. I’m pleased to say that Sabby passed her 11+ exam and was offered a place at Chigwell, Bancroft’s and Forest School.

GCSE Maths

Rachel was a bright girl with a lot of potential but was terrified of GCSE Maths. She found it difficult to learn effectively at school being in a 30-pupil classroom and felt she required some individual support. I supported Rachel by introducing areas she found complex like ‘quadratic equations’ and ‘trigonometry’ in a fun, easy and accessible way. I did this by providing detailed examples and gave her the chance to try many different types of questions and develop her confidence. Rachel began to enjoy Maths and found her grades improved over time too.

GCSE Business Studies

Dhruv was a conscientious student willing to put in the work to achieve good results however he had at the time just achieved a C grade in his Business Studies mock exam. Dhruv was disappointed by this and wanted to find a new way to improve his exam revision. I assisted Dhruv by developing a revision timetable whereby we broke down his syllabus into more manageable weekly topic lists. This enabled Dhruv to get through content in a more efficient manner, become organised and also take pride in the content he was getting through over time. This raised Dhruv’s self-esteem, and he achieved an A grade in his GCSE.

A-Level Economics

Anthony was an intellectual student but struggled with applying his knowledge in exams. In this scenario I helped Anthony by providing him with some exam friendly notes, using short and concise points, which provided both value and impact. I also helped Antony to improve his exam technique by going through numerous past exam papers and practising questions under timed conditions. This helped to enhance Anthony’s confidence and he secured an A* in his A-Level Economics along with a place at LSE to study Economics.

BSC Investment and Risk Management Degree

I was assisting Henry with his Financial Investment Module in the final year of Investment and Risk Management Degree. He was struggling with how to account for annuities so I was able to utilise my knowledge from my Actuarial Mathematics degree to show him a quick and effective way to calculate and understand them. I also helped him to understand the concepts behind international finance in a more interactive way by using real world examples. This was further reinforced by summarising Henry’s notes in an exam friendly way by so he could easily remember key concepts. Henry fortunately passed this module and went on to graduate with a First Class.

Hobbies and Interests

I love to travel and recently enjoyed flying over North America’s Grand Canyon to witness exhilarating views of the mighty Hoover Dam and Lake Mead.
