About Me
I have been tutoring, both online and face-to-face, for over a decade. I enjoy developing well-structured and engaging lessons for students. A passionate educator, I believe in the power of developing relationships with both students and their parents.
My years of tuition experience have centred on Maths and Business Studies. While the former has ranged from supporting 5 year olds to undergraduates (including extensive TMUA – Test of Mathematics for University Admission); the latter has spanned school students to professional adults, with notable success assisting those preparing for MBAs and GMATs (Graduate Management Admission Test, which encompasses a broad range of quantitative and mathematical reasoning). I am likewise skilled in preparing candidates for all aspects of Oxbridge applications and am well-versed in UCAS requirements.
Additionally, I regularly deliver Italian tuition, spanning all ages and abilities. This includes for both conversational and qualification purposes, notably AP Italian.
Recent tuition
7+ Maths
I have recently helped a student prepare for the 7+ maths entrance exam. I tailored the lessons to focus on key concepts like number operations and problem-solving, using visual aids and real-world examples to make the material engaging and easy to understand – the student at the beginning was not really engaged so this approach was very helpful. To build exam confidence, I introduced regular timed practice sessions. The student was then well prepared for the exam.
Year 6 Maths – Autism and ADHD
I helped a 10 year student who is affected by autism and ADHD. He was not engaged a lot as he thought he was forced by his mum to attend daily homeschooling sessions. He struggled to focus for long periods and felt overwhelmed by multi-step problems. To address these issues, I implemented an approach where complex problems were broken down into smaller, manageable steps. I also used visual aids and real-life examples to make abstract concepts more relatable, which helped him grasp the material more easily. Over time, this method allowed the student to build confidence and stay engaged without feeling overloaded. I also introduced regular short breaks to accommodate their attention needs and sensory sensitivities.
11+
When I started working with this student for 11+ prep, he struggled with some key maths concepts. In the first tutoring session I did a thorough assessment of the student’s weaknesses, these included world problems and fractions. I set up then a learning plan to review and explain to him the whole 11+ process – with a main focus on the ares that needed more in-depth explanation based on the initial assessment – and what is required to ace the test. Over a few months, the student went from being hesitant and anxious over complex problems to solving them with ease. By the time of the exam, he was well-prepared and confident, he put a lot of efforts and hard work, and in the end he was able to secure a spot in his first-choice grammar school.
Maths – GCSE
This 15-year-old student had always found GCSE Maths daunting. I set up an intensive revision programme for her, so that she could master key concepts and develop effective problem-solving techniques. Thanks to her hard work and my targeted support, she earned a Grade 8 in her GCSE Maths exam.
Maths – A Level
In addition to reinforcing core concepts, I emphasised exam techniques, helping my student refine his time management (he was feeling always “he did not have enough time”) and approach to different question types. We regularly worked on past papers under timed conditions, so he became comfortable with the exam format and aware of common pitfalls.
Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA) – University of Cambridge
I have recently completed intensive preparatory work with a student for their TMUA exam, conducting 3 to 4 hour sessions each week. During our sessions, I worked with the student reviewing past papers and developing effective time management strategies to ensure the student could complete the exam within the allotted time. Additionally, I assisted with their personal statement and conducted mock interviews to enhance their confidence throughout the application process. I am pleased to share that this preparation was successful, and the student received an offer for their desired programme at the University of Cambridge.
Maths
I tutored a student who disliked Maths but who was forced to do home tutoring from his parents. At the beginning of our tutoring sessions, he was not collaborative at all. I then changed my tutoring approach, understanding that every student has different needs. I stopped talking to him about Maths and started talking about football as he was a big football fan. This was transformational and he started being much more responsive and became much more willing to do the home tutoring with me – tutoring became “almost fun” to him.
Italian
I tutored a lady who wanted to improve her Italian skills as she was in love with the language. She was extremely hardworking and, despite some initial issues with the grammar, we develop a structured programme with a focus on all the four basic language skills. She obtained an A2 certificate after six months of training.
Business and Innovation
I tutored a group of 16–17-year-old international students in Business and Innovation. We worked on several subjects including Entrepreneurship, Business Finance, and Venture Capital. The students wanted to understand in greater details the business world and its idiosyncrasies. The two-week tutoring programme ended with a pitching session where the students pitched their own entrepreneurial venture to the entire class and me.
Maths
I tutored a student for six months who initially did not show any kind of interest towards Maths. He was suffering from anxiety and was being home schooled. We worked together on a daily basis and his approach radically switched as we applied the same maths concepts to real time experiences. At the end of the six months he grasped completely those maths concepts and was able to articulate them in his own words.
Hobbies
Reading, I can develop myself as an individual – Classical Music, it relaxes me – Football – I am a big football fan!
