About Me
I love teaching and thrive on the satisfaction of helping a student reach their goal; I welcome students of all abilities, motivation levels and confidence levels. My approach is not only to tutor my students, but to take the role of a mentor, to motivate, encourage and guide them towards success. As a creator and deliverer of study skills workshops in schools and colleges across the country, my students also benefit from my knowledge of evidence-based study skill techniques, which I integrate into my teaching to equip my students with skills in memory retention, time management, exam preparation, and a whole host of other key study techniques that are crucial for academic achievement!
My first step is always to assess exactly where my student is at so that I can plan the content for sessions accordingly and make sure that they get the best out of each lesson. If there are any gaps in the foundations of their knowledge, we can then attack these head on. My approach is thus very organised and tailored to the specific needs of the student, with small goals set per session alongside a long term goal to work towards. I always ensure that my lessons are engaging, and work towards building a good relationship with my students, encouraging them to ask questions without any hesitation. I adapt my approach depending on their learning style as I feel this is the key to successful teaching. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, and value being as dynamic as possible!
At GCSE and A Level specifically, my aim is always to make sure that students are completely familiar with the subject specification and assessment objectives as this dictates exactly where they can pick up most marks. Completing as many past papers as possible is also a step in the right direction, alongside completing assignments set by myself. I always give very detailed feedback so that my students know exactly where they can improve, and how to apply it to their work going forward.
My approach for students studying Psychology at degree level depends on what is required. Most students require guidance with essays, reports, dissertations and write ups; as well as facilitating understanding, I usually go through the assignment with the student giving valuable, detailed feedback on what can be improved and exactly how they can go about doing so. This can involve several redrafts until the work has been completed to the students’ full potential.
Recent tuition
I offer tailored tuition for both school and university entrance examinations. For Psychology students aiming for prestigious universities like Oxford, I provide specialised support in interview techniques and personal statements.
For school entrance exams, including those for students up to age 11, I have a strong track record of preparing candidates for top institutions such as Dulwich College. My experience includes successfully coaching students who have earned scholarships.
I am committed to adapting my services to meet the specific entrance criteria of any school or university, even those I haven’t worked with previously. This ensures comprehensive and customised preparation for each student.
Here is a snapshot of my recent tutoring experience:
7+ Scholarship Prep for Dulwich College
In seven months, I prepared a highly gifted boy from an underprivileged background for a 7+ scholarship at Dulwich College. We focused on mastering his already impressive maths skills, improving his attention to detail in questions, enhancing English comprehension and vocabulary, and refining his test-taking strategies. This led to his successful scholarship achievement.
Edexcel GCSE Maths (Harris Academy South Norwood)
Over two years, I filled gaps in this student’s knowledge using a targeted plan based on a traffic light system of her strengths and weaknesses. Tailoring lessons to her learning style and bolstering her confidence led her to improve from a grade 5 to an 8 in GCSE Maths.
Edexcel GCSE Maths (East Barnet School)
Over two years, I helped a student move from fluctuating grades of 5-7 to a solid 8 in GCSE Maths. Our focus was on reinforcing her foundational knowledge, tackling complex word problems, and mastering necessary formulae using innovative memory aids. We did countless past papers, and my detailed plan of action ensured we covered all topics she had missed in school due to absence.
AQA GCSE English (Friern Barnet School)
I tutored a dyslexic student with low confidence over 1.5 years, focusing on the key areas I identified as holding her back: mastering assessment objectives, improving essay writing technique, and deepening her literary analysis skills. Our sessions significantly bolstered her understanding and exam technique, boosting her grades from below passing to a 7 in English Language and a 6 in English Literature.
AQA A Level Psychology (Chestnut Grove Academy), Psychology undergraduate and Masters (Sussex University), Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (University College London)
I tutored this student over a period of 10+ years; from Psychology A-level (achieved grade A), through an undergraduate degree in Psychology where she achieved a first in both her dissertation and overall, to a successful first-time application and completion of Clinical Psychology Doctorate at UCL. Starting with A-level evaluation techniques, I supported her through academic transitions and intense doctoral applications, culminating in her now flourishing career as a Clinical Psychologist.
Hobbies
I’m a vibrant lover of life, with a passion for exploring the outdoors and embracing new experiences. I absolutely love my daily walks in the park with my two dogs and toddler (when it’s not raining anyway!), soaking in the fresh air and the simple joys around us. Travel fuels my soul – I am eager to dive into new cultures and sample local culinary delights along the way (I am a big foodie) – especially those with a spicy kick! I also love to paint (even though I’m admittedly not particularly good), finding the whole process of putting brush to canvas an amazing way to express creativity and simply unwind! I am also reigniting my passion for reading, a beloved hobby that I’m making time for once again.

“Ophrah has supported me with psychology since A-Levels. I have had her help all through my higher education too which spans an undergraduate, masters and PHD. I honestly could not have gotten this far without her support. She has always been so easy to approach, super flexible when needed and has always demonstrated her passion for teaching and helping students as well as her knowledge in subjects. It has always been very clear that she enjoys tutoring, and that she adapts her approach when needed. I have struggled with various modules and Ophrah has been a great help in breaking them down into easy to digest concepts. I could not recommend Ophrah enough!”
