About Me
My academic background and experience enables me to explain challenging concepts clearly while remaining sensitive to the difficulties learners often face. I tailor each session carefully to the individual, continually refining both my teaching approach and the structure of sessions in response to how each student learns best. Alongside this, I have a strong personal interest in learning strategies, shaped by my academic studies, work and also hobbies such as chess and language learning, which have deepened my understanding of how students absorb, retain, and apply information. I also encourage students to explore beyond the syllabus, as fostering curiosity consistently enhances engagement and understanding. Beyond developing subject knowledge and confidence, my aim is to help students become increasingly independent in their approach to problem-solving, building skills that carry forward into further study, work, and everyday learning.
Recent tuition
A-Level Physics (AQA)
I tutored this student (Year 13) in Physics over the summer and throughout the following academic year. Support focused on building mathematical confidence, developing problem-solving skills, and fostering a deeper understanding of concepts through equations. Over the year, he made excellent progress, improving from a D to an A in his final exams.
A-Level Further Mathematics and Physics (OCR A)
I supported this student, new to her school, in Further Mathematics and Physics over two years. Sessions focused on breaking down complex problems into manageable steps and applying these techniques to increasingly challenging material, extending beyond the syllabus. She improved from an A to an A* in both subjects and secured a place at Cambridge.
A-Level Physics (CIE)
This student received intensive Physics tuition over a short period (six hours across 1.5 weeks). We focused on developing effective revision strategies, revisiting content, and targeted exam practice. Despite the condensed timeframe, he engaged fully with the sessions and achieved remarkable progress, moving from a D to an A in his Physics examination.
A-Level Mathematics (Edexcel)
I tutored this student in A-Level Mathematics during an intensive Easter holiday program in Year 13. Sessions focused on exam technique, applying knowledge under timed conditions, and practising problem-solving strategies. Despite Mathematics not being her primary focus, she improved from a B to a high A and went on to study at the University of Oxford.
A-Level Mathematics (Edexcel)
I have supported this student with weekly Mathematics tuition for over a year, after he found the transition from GCSE challenging despite strong prior attainment. As his other subjects are unrelated to Mathematics, ideas were less frequently reinforced outside our sessions. We focused on understanding concepts, breaking down longer exam questions, and structuring revision. He progressed from a D to consistently working at an A.
Hobbies
When I’m not tutoring, I enjoy swimming, cycling, chess, and learning languages, particularly French. I’ve been drawn to these activities because they have both physical and mental elements.
Testimonials
“We chose Oliver as a tutor as we needed urgent help with A-Level Physics close to exams, and the impact of the tutoring was immediate. The sessions were highly focused and practical, with clear advice on how to revise effectively and approach exam questions. In a very short space of time, our child made significant improvements and felt far more prepared going into the exam. The final A grade was an outstanding outcome and far beyond what we had expected as he had started on a D.”

“My child had been struggling with A-Level Physics and had little confidence going into their final year. Oliver was excellent at explaining difficult ideas clearly and building confidence over time. We saw a real improvement not just in grades, but in understanding and independence. The support throughout the year was outstanding, and the final result was an A grade! We also really appreciated the clear, detailed lesson reports, which were far more helpful than those we’d received from other tutors.”
