I am an experienced tutor with over 5 years of experience tutoring entrance exams (7 and 11+), Key Stage 1-3, SATS, GCSE English Literature and Language
My approach is to be led by the interests and priorities of my tutees, working with them over time to improve their confidence to make learning fun and fulfilling. I promote a strong work/life balance and a healthy, rational attitude towards work.
My tutoring style is to set clear and measurable goals, and to work closely to assessment guidelines. I locate my resources through exam board and school websites, TES and other teaching resource websites. I also have a network of friends and colleagues who tutor and teach and we share resources amongst ourselves.
In terms of style, I use games, interactive teaching styles as well as focused written work, and marking to achieve results. I find that some pupils require more variation and activity whereas others are happier to work in a more focused way on one task at a time.
My strengths as a tutor lie in my ability to tailor my approach to my tutees, and in making the sessions creative. I believe in enabling transformative learning through facilitation rather than through simply providing information. I create a proactive learning environment, which starts with working with young people to create a positive work routine that works for them. It also includes setting achievable goals with students and finding a way to measure success. I am firm and fair in my approach, never strict but always co-creating a plan with my tutees.
I have found that my students flourish not only in terms of their work but also in their personal confidence and growth.

7+ Exam Preparation
I worked with this student towards the 7+ exams for both King and Harrodian. I used a range of past papers as resources, including school such as Highgate, to help them become familiar with a range of questions. I have a very creative approach to lessons to make them fun and manageable for the students, which they responded well to.
Age 7 and 11 Support
I have been tutoring Noah and Enfys for about 6 months now. They are a delightful brother and sister based in Denmark Hill at the local prep schools. I support them with their homework, do creative projects with them, and boost their confidence and their work ethic. Noah was very resistant to SATS and I managed to improve his outlook towards them and to go over some key areas particularly in grammar, to cover gaps in knowledge.
11+ English and Maths
I’ve have tutored the 11+ for Kings College Wimbledon, Kew, Whitgift and the Harrodian. I am currently tutoring students for Latymer, City of London Boys and Redbridge. I myself took the 11+ for South Hampstead, City of London Girls and Henrietta Barnet Grammar and so have a good understand of what it’s like to take the exams at that age.
11+English and Maths
I am tutoring 11+ at the moment for a student based in Leytonstone, I have been working with him over the past few months in English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning to prepare him for the CEM Redbridge Test. I have been building his confidence in these subjects, setting past papers and then going over particular sections which he has found difficult with him. I use a hand held white board and we work through tricky ideas and concepts with coloured whiteboard pens. I have helped him to feel calm and ready for the exam by talking through the process of the exam itself and helping to organise his preparation and his workload. I work with my students to empower them to set their own goals, whilst being there to support them by ironing out gaps in their knowledge and to give them techniques and processes to help them.
11+English and Maths
I supported a student to apply for Kings, Harrodian, Kew and Whitgift. He received offers from all except Kings, and chose Whitgift. We worked together to make the 11+ feel manageable and particularly around creative writing, which he wasn’t so much a fan of – I created structures for him to write his responses, and we revised vocabulary together. He is really pleased with his chosen school, which is the right fit for him. h tricky ideas and concepts with coloured whiteboard pens. IGCSE English Language
I tutored Alex in IGCSE English Language this year. Alex was struggling particularly with expanding her vocabulary and imaginative writing as well as exam technique. We went through past papers together, making a clear structure for planning answers and dividing up her time. Through conversation and practice we explored how to expand her imaginative writing. I encouraged Alex to read fiction outside of our sessions to support her in this area and to expand her vocabulary, we also looked at model answers and created plans from those answers. I am looking forward to hearing what Alex’s result is in the summer.
IGCSE English Literature and Language
I helped Tim through his English Language and Literature IGCSEs. We looked at mark schemes, past papers, specifications and past work together. Tim is a bright student who sometimes lacked nuance in his answers. We used model answers to provoke discussion about where he can find complexity within his arguments. I was pleased with Tim’s progress and I look forward to hearing about his results this summer.
GCSE English Language (Edexcel)
Chris is in year 10 and going into year 11 next academic year. I have been focussing on English Language with him, and will continue to do so from September. Chris is bright and able with English, so our goals were about finding all the information about the exam through reading the specification closely, and through looking at model answers. We looked over marked classwork together and planned answers to essay questions.
GCSE History, English and Drama
Jay was going through a difficult time personally so tutoring was about giving him space to focus on work, and to build his confidence generally. With Jay I focused on helping him to build a timetable of work for himself, so that his GCSE work felt manageable. I instilled in him a confidence in his own abilities and gave him homework and tasks to do outside of our sessions. Jay went on to achieve B grades in all of these subjects, which was a huge achievement from being predicted fail grades previous to our sessions.
Hobbies and Interests
I am a theatre director. I am also a passionate environmental activist and campaigner with Extinction Rebellion and Culture Declares. I am a camper, and enjoy swimming, yoga and hiking. I am an avid reader and a writer.
