Mrs F, GCSE English Tuition
2015, Goldsmiths and Harris Teaching School Alliance, QTS (Highest Recommendation)
2010-2014, Birbeck University of London, BA English and Theatre Studies
I have been tutoring since 2016. My specialisms are in supporting literacy and articulation to achieve the highest grades possible in the GCSE exams.
I am a qualified teacher, and have over 150 hours of tutoring experience, supporting students from Key Stage 2 to GCSE. Please find a sample of my most recent tutoring history below.
Year 4 SATS preparation
Whilst tutoring to the KS2 curriculum, this student was also exposed to a wider range of language devices and introduced to the principles of creativity writing at KS3 level. This student’s ability to write creatively also improved-as well as their levels of motivation for the subject.
Year 9 English
This student had missed some of their Primary education and so the main focus was on improving their overall literacy and analytical writing. I’m pleased to say that the student’s confidence, articulation skills and spellings improved through a variety of routines e.g. spelling tests, speaking and listening tasks, as well as independent research and close reading.
Year 9 English (High Ability)
The main focus with this student was sustaining their current abilities, and also challenging them as they were already exhibiting top level responses for analyses. I encouraged the use of exam board guidance for obtaining higher marks in written responses as well as exposing them to academic analyses related to each text studied, in order to expand alternative interpretations and consider wider contextual factors.
GCSE English (Edexcel) SEN Autism
I worked with this student for over 2 years, focusing on their reading, analytical and comparative skills. This student reacted particularly well to methodological tuition and practice papers. I also offered pastoral care in relation to study schedules and homework practice, which enabled this student to achieve a grade 6 in English Language and a grade 5 in English Literature. This student was predicted a 5 and 4 respectively.
GCSE English (Edexcel)
This student was very proficient in Literature, so I encouraged him to find judicious examples to improve his grade. English Language was a slight challenge for him, so I began to give him strategies to answer the most difficult questions (comparative, evaluative, transactional writing task) in order to succeed.
Hobbies and Interests
I enjoy travelling and cooking as it enables me to enrich my culture by being exposed to others’ practices and customs.
“Natalie’s has worked with my three children from September 17 to March 18 and I’m very happy with her work.
