About Me

I teach English and Maths in preparation for 7+, 11+ English, Maths, Science and Geography for 13+ examinations. I can offer English, Politics and Geography support up to GCSE and 16+. My other specialist subjects are History, Religious Studies, History of Art, Law and interview preparation tuition at all levels.

I have been commended by parents of the students I tutor for my passion for the subjects I teach. In particular, I have a talent for explaining topics in a syllabus with reference to recent world events, cultural milestones and citing the appropriate historical context.

My experience of the Cambridge supervision system supports my belief that a tutor should be able to inspire his or her students to work to their strengths and to enjoy learning beyond the classroom.

I studied my undergraduate degree in Theology at the University of Cambridge. I followed this with a graduate degree in Law. I am a former member of my college’s ‘University Challenge’ team and gained admission to the Freedom of the City of London in 2009.

Recent tuition

Please find below a snapshot of my tuition and mentoring experience.

Weekly tuition over the academic year. From starting as a student who had difficulties sustaining his concentration, his parents were delighted with the improvements noted in his end of year school reports.

One month of intensive home tutoring for three siblings, aged between 5 and 8 prior to returning to their home country. By the end of the month all had made significant progress in mathematics and literacy, which was commended by their school.

Ongoing support for a student in preparation for his City of London Boys School exam.

This year 5 student was applying for a music scholarship to St Paul’s Girls School, which she got an interview for and gained entry. I tutored her for one hour per week for a year focusing on all aspects of the 11+ exam. I also tutored her brother, who gained entry to Eton.

I tutored a high-achieving Year 5 student towards pre-tests at Eton College and St Paul’s School. I helped this particular student to be able to tackle English and Mathematics practice papers at a step above the syllabus at his present preparatory school.

11+ Harrow test preparation (maths, English, interview preparation)

I have now worked with three students who were preparing for the Year 7 Harrow test at the school. The test is academically rigorous and I worked with my students to make sure that they were pushing their abilities to keep them in a strong position. I also prepared them for their interviews, which form a part of the assessment at Harrow.

13+ Interview preparation

I have supported many students with interview preparation for 13+ entry. Students I have worked with were applying for schools such as Eton, Sevenoaks, Wetherby and Westminster.

I worked with this student, who was based in Singapore, on her Maths, English, Science and Humanities for her exams for Wycombe Abbey. She was ultimately awarded a place.

13 + CE/SCB

I helped this student with Science and Geography – we are eagerly expecting the results. Our main focus was the Science papers, and breaking down the concepts which they didn’t understand into smaller sections which made it easier for them.

Year 8 (13+ level) Science (Chemistry and Biology) and Geography

Intense tuition with A prior to her end of year exams at Francis Holland. I am supporting A with reinforcing the basics and revision.

13+ English, Maths and Humanities

I worked with this student for her exams for Wycombe Abbey, and can report that she was successful in her exams.

13+ St Paul’s Scholarship

Seven months of tuition with a student who was taking the St Paul’s scholarship. My focus was History and essay technique, with particular attention to thinking critically and structuring answers.

16+ (6th form entry preparation)

I recently helped to prepare a student for her sixth form interview assessment into a competitive London day school. We focused on Interview technique and improving her confidence when answering questions. By the end of our lessons she was much more confident and articulate when it came to her answers.

I have supported a student for seven months on his 16+ preparation for City boys School. We focused on his English and he was successful in gaining a place.

Mentoring, SEN

I mentored a student who had Microcephaly online for two years, 3-4 hours per week. I helped keep her focused and navigate her life accordingly, because of her generic difficulties she had a lower IQ which meant she found learning harder. I helped her deal with this and I found lots of ways to help her in studying and in life.

GCSE Religious Studies

I have worked with over eight GCSE students studying Religious studies, across all exam boards. All of them have done very well, and I find my degree in theology allows me to give the students a huge range of knowledge and depth.

GCSE and A Level History

I created a curriculum for this student to give her a solid foundation of History ahead of her taking it for A Level in September.

AS History of Art (AQA)

AS Level tuition on a weekly basis. She had a genuine interest and enthusiasm for the subject but was having difficulty remembering dates and structuring her work. We spent a lot of time on essay structure, memorising facts and dates and exam technique.

A2 History

Intensive A2 Level tuition was required to focus on essay technique very close to this student’s exams. He achieved the necessary ‘A’ Grade he required to fulfil a conditional university place at the LSE.

A2 Government and Politics

This work overlapped greatly with the training I had gained from my Law degree. The student was finding it difficult to sit down and focus, so we spent time addressing his concentration to get the best out of his tuition.

IB History

I recently advised a student preparing their extended essay – how to sustain a critical argument, use appropriate academic referencing and effectively manage the wide variety of sources used.

Oxbridge interview and personal statement preparation

I have tutored and mentored extensively, preparing students’ personal statements and preparing them for their Oxbridge interviews. I focus on ensuring that my students feel confident with the questions that they will be facing and help them to construct intelligent and focused answers.

I have an expert level of understanding of the standards expected in the Oxbridge interviews and in applicants’ personal statements. I spent four years working for Oxbridge Applications, a private consultancy service for the Oxbridge application process. During this time, I conducted mock interview days with students, quizzing them on their academic aspirations and discussing details in their personal statements. I also marked and edited personal statements for all subjects. From my time as a Cambridge graduate and from my time with Oxbridge Applications, I have a thorough knowledge about how much work is needed to ensure an Oxbridge application is a success.

Year 8 end of year exams (13+ level)

“We have used Nadia as a tutor for our three kids (ages 6, 10 and 12) over the last 2 years. We have used her for a couple of residential stints and on weekly classes on Skype. She has been extremely useful in preparing our kids for 7+ and 11+. She is currently preparing our girls for 12 and 13+ entrance exams. She is very focused and engaging and prepares the kids well. I also found her very easy to be around and a discreet and pleasant house guest!”
