About Me
My approach to teaching is friendly, child-centred, and strongly focused on each child’s individual interests and needs. I believe that effective planning begins with getting to know the child, understanding what they enjoy, what motivates them and identifying the areas where they may need additional support or development.
I aim to create engaging learning experiences that build on their strengths while helping to close any gaps in learning. Positive reinforcement and a growth mindset are at the heart of my practice, encouraging children to feel confident, resilient and motivated to keep trying. I also place great importance on developing soft skills, such as confidence, communication, and independence to help children develop a lifelong love for learning.
Recent tuition
Early Years – Phonics and Fine Motor Skills
I taught a girl who found phonics challenging. She struggled with recognising sounds and early blending CVC words. Fine motor development was also identified as an area requiring additional support. I provided regular targeted support through structured phonics activities, blending practice, hands-on learning experiences. We focused on recognising letter sounds, segmenting and blending simple CVC words and building confidence through repetition and encouragement. With consistent sessions she could read the sounds and apply them when reading simple words.
I introduced fine motor activities such as finger gym exercises, cutting tasks and paper tray activities to strengthen hand muscles and improve pencil control. These activities supported her readiness for writing and helped increase concentration and independence during learning tasks. Over time, she made noticeable progress. She became more confident when attempting to blend sounds together and showed improvement in reading CVC words. She also began recognising their own name more independently.
Maths and English – Early Years
I tutored a girl in maths and English who was becoming bored in class as she was not being sufficiently challenged. Through engaging lessons and tailored planning, I was able to extend her knowledge and deepen her understanding across both subjects. By Year 1, she was confidently working at a year above.
Reading – Year 1
I tutored a student with low reading comprehension and decoding skills through engaging, child-centred activities and consistent encouragement. Over time, her confidence, motivation and self-esteem improved significantly. She successfully transitioned into her chosen Year 2 school and became more independent and increasingly positive about learning and participating in school life.
Maths – Year 1
I tutored a boy with a particular focus on maths. He was a highly able student so I provided additional challenge and extension activities to further develop his skills. While in Year 1, he was already working securely at a Year 2 level.
Writing and Focus – Year 2
I tutored a boy who struggled with focus and writing due to ADHD. I observed that his posture needed to be improved, so he worked on different wobble cushions. He had a strong interest in Chinese culture so I supported him to develop his writing skills through projects linked to Chinese culture. We used different modes of writing with whiteboards and different types of pen which significantly improved his focus, confidence and productivity throughout the year. He is now thriving in his Year 3 class.
Confidences and Focus – Year 2
I tutored a bilingual boy who spoke both Mandarin and English and had autism and ADHD. He initially found it challenging to focus in lessons and required a range of tailored strategies and support to help him engage with learning. Through consistent guidance, he developed significantly in both confidence and academic ability. Within a year of tutoring, he was producing fantastic work and working above his expected level.
Hobbies
Outside of teaching, I enjoy practising Capoeira which helps me stay fit while also supporting my interest in learning languages. I enjoy spending time with family, travelling, trying new things and reading.
