About Me

I am an experienced tutor with nearly thirty years of teaching and tutoring under my belt. I enjoy the opportunity to work with each student individually and to engage with them where their needs are. It is a hugely rewarding role and I spend time getting to know each student and making sure they have a tailor made experience.

Recent tuition

A Level English Language

This bright student with ADHD/ASD was very high flying and capable but needed a good tutor to help order her thoughts as well as her essays. It was very rewarding working with her over a six month period to help her secure her place at Cambridge University.

English GCSE

This young man was a reluctant reader with low self-esteem and very worried that he would fail. I worked with him over 2 years online tutoring to help improve his understanding of the exam requirements for English Language, and to have a deeper understanding of the literature texts. He responded very well to one to one support and improved hugely, gaining the confidence to pass all his exams.

English GCSE

This student was very unhappy at school, and specifically disliked his English teacher and lessons. Over two years of patient study and calm focus in lessons, I worked with this student to move him from a D grade to B grade through engaging with English texts and inspiring English writing.

History A level

This pupil was hard working but lacking in essay confidence. I helped her to revise with care so that she achieved the desired A at A level, and she consequently took up her place at a prestigious London University. She kept in touch and I was pleased to spend time with her reading over her first university essay as an undergraduate. A very rewarding experience to see her growth and development over three years!

MA student at University

For this student English was not her first language. Before submitting her MA on creative arts to a London university we went through her dissertation with a fine tooth comb to make sure that she was confident and clear with everything she wanted to say. I was delighted to see her confidence in her academic skills bloom over several weeks.

Hobbies

I enjoy reading, writing, long walks and travel.

Testimonials

“You were extremely helpful with my A-Level History coursework. Even though our sessions were some time ago, I still remember how quickly and efficiently you helped me transform my own words and knowledge into clear academic writing, and how much you improved my essay structures — something I would have otherwise struggled with, as English is my second language and I also have Dyslexia/ADHD. What stood out most was your ability to keep me engaged and focused, even when I was tired or uninterested in the assignment. That, to me, speaks volumes about your skill as a tutor. One of my biggest regrets is not reaching out to you sooner whilst at university, instead of relying only on Grammarly, ChatGPT and other AI tools. As you know, my transition into university was made much harder by Covid disrupting my exams and then university experience followed by two major operations and series of bad luck recently.”
