Makaela

“My Son needed help with improving his English comprehension as well as revising for his 13+ English exam. Makaela identified his weakness and areas he needed to improve on and although we only had a few lessons with her he improved by at least a grade. Yacoub really got along with Makaela and we liked the way she taught as Yacoub found it enjoyable. We would highly recommend Makaela as her friendly personality and teaching method makes a difference.”

About Me

My specialist subjects are English (primary and secondary school) and English as a Foreign Language.

A good tutor offers unparalleled dedication to facilitating the learning process of students in a way that inspires both academic confidence and improved scholastic ability. Always seeking to tap into the intrinsic motivation of the learner with a creative, motivational and dynamic teaching style is also essential to being an effective tutor; it is my belief that learning should be fun and fulfilling.  Fundamentally, being able to establish a positive rapport between the tutor and learner is integral to creating environmental conditions conducive for learning. It is important that learners feel they can take risks in their learning without fear of making mistakes.  It is my belief that errors present an opportunity for growth and more thoughtful learning rather than reflect a learner’s deficient scholastic ability.

Client Testimonials

“We found Makaela to be conscientious, charming, and a thoroughly professional individual. She established a good rapport with our daughter from the outset. Since our daughter was a keen writer and already high on the baseline assessments for 11 plus, we were not looking for a traditional tutoring experience. Having applied to only a few target schools, we engaged Makaela’s services over four months from September till December to review our daughter’s home preparation. Even in this relatively short period of time, Makaela was able to establish a good understanding of specific areas that needed consolidation and further practice. Her feedback was always detailed and thoughtful. Her skills as a University graduate in English were clearly visible in the brilliant way she was able to provide guidance on key areas such as creative writing and comprehension. Our daughter found Makaela to be delightful company and was eager to learn from her. We plan to keep in touch and call upon her from time to time during our daughter’s journey in Senior School. We recommend her without reservation.”

V.V. (Golders Green)

Mother of English 11 Plus student

“Makaela tutored our son Alex, to prepare him for his 10+ entrance exam with City of London School. Alex was comfortable with maths but less confident with English. He needed help to improve his English comprehension, writing skills, grammar and vocabulary. Alex got along really well with Makaela, she is very calm, patient and had a lovely way to make Alex want to improve what he was learning. Makaela suggested various resources to help Alex and us with his home learning, which increased his enjoyment of the subject.

Makaela kept us updated with monthly progress reports detailing Alex’s achievements and areas for improvement. She was generous with praise helping Alex’s confidence.

I would recommend Makaela both for her ability to teach and for her ability to cater for each child’s personality and what works best with them.  Alex has been successful in passing the 10+ exam for admission to the City of London School, and we are grateful for Makaela’s tuition. We hope to continue with Makaela’s tuition for our daughter and to start to prepare her for the 11+ exams.”

B.A. (Camden)

Mother of 10+ English student

“Makaela tutored my son for 2 years and my daughter briefly during her IGCSEs, and both greatly benefited from her tuition.  She helped my son gain a better understanding of English language skills, which were exemplified in his grades across the board.  She was also able to help my daughter achieve a C in her English language GCSE, which she would not have been able to accomplish without Makaela’s help.  I am was very happy with her standard of tutoring, and I would definitely recommend Makaela to other parents.”

A.N. (Wembley)

Mother of KS3 English & IGCSE English students

“My Son needed help with improving his English comprehension as well as revising for his 13+ English exam. Makaela identified his weakness and areas he needed to improve on and although we only had a few lessons with her he improved by at least a grade. Yacoub really got along with Makaela and we liked the way she taught as Yacoub found it enjoyable. We would highly recommend Makaela as her friendly personality and teaching method makes a difference.”

D.R. (Islington)

Parent of 13+ English Year 8 student

“Makaela tutored my son Arthur from November 2017 to July 2018, for one hour per week. The reason for tuition was to support my son in achieving a good grade in English: supporting through the years to develop and progress to a better and smoother learning of the subject.

Since working with Makaela, Arthur raised in his understanding of punctuation, and improved his reading skills as well as his confidence in learning, which was boosted immensely. My son is not the most patient when it comes to learning, as he gets frustrated quite easily, but somehow Makaela managed to pass all the obstacles he had. My son was very happy with Makaela and looked forward to working with her each week.
