About Me

I believe in the transformative power of English language and literature, and that every student of English, whether as a first or second language, is being given an opportunity to learn how to express themselves fully and how to understand and navigate the world around them.

I am a nurturing and positive tutor, and am always very flexible to the needs of my students. I have specific experience in mentoring roles and with SEN students and students who have struggled with mental health. I work to structure the student’s learning to ensure that all syllabus is covered thoroughly and the student is confident with every aspect of their work; however, I work hard to ensure that the lessons are always free flowing and enable the student to fulfil their true potential in an organic and holistic way.

Recent tuition

Please find some examples of the students I have worked with below

I have helped prepare students for entry to the following schools: North London Girls Consortium Groups 1&2 (including: Francis Holland, Queen’s Gate, City Girls), Emanuel School, Cheltenham Ladies’ College, Downe House, Westminster Under School and others.

11+: Maths, English and Latin:

I have tutored several students for 11+ exams. Schools my students have achieved entry to include Highgate, Francis Holland and Queen’s Gate. Most recently I worked with two girls doing the Consortium January tests, one girl for 11+ Wellington College pretests, and two boy working towards tests in North London. This includes Maths, English and Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, with a focus on confidence building. I use a methodical approach with these students showing them the processes that need to be followed to achieve the best results.

13+: Maths, English and Latin:

have been working with Emily for a few months in the build up to her 13+ ISEB. We pinpointed and then worked hard on key points of weakness, before consolidating what she had learnt with repetitive revision tactics. I act as a regular Latin tutor for two students, at Westminster and Beneden respectively. I have helped 2 students with their 13+ Entry Exams to Wellington College, both were successful in being offered a place.

GCSE: English Literature, English Language and Latin:

I began teaching Grace regularly for her AQA English GCSEs at the start of this academic year in order to boost her confidence and further her reading skills. I was delighted and encouraging when she discussed taking the subject to A Level. Last year I tutored James who was attending Eton with his OCR GCSE Latin preparations, he achieved an A grade

A-Level, English, Case Studies:

Last year I helped prepare Andrew for his AQA A-Level English Literature, looking specifically at the Gothic. Andrew struggled with essay writing technique and just generally structuring his thoughts. We tackled this by creating a go-to essay formula that proved to be a success as Andrew achieved an A grade at A-Leve. I am currently teaching Olivia in her preparation for an Edexcel A-Level retake, with her exam focused on Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, The Great Gatsby and an Anthology of 20th century poetry. Olivia and are I working towards a specific goal and as such our lessons are each formulated for that purpose. Feedback has been extremely positive and I trust that Olivia is set to receive a top grade.

International Baccalaurete, English, Case Study:

Last year I helped Cecily with her coursework essays on Streetcar Named Desire and Othello, which she wrote for English Higher at international baccalaureate level. After struggling with English Cecily did extremely well, gaining a grade 6.

Applications: 6th Form 16+ Entry, University Entry (Personal Statement):

I have helped students with their personal statements, on a variety of subjects: Psychology, History, English and Law. This involves helping with structure and consolidation. Students of mine have gone on to study at Manchester, Edinburgh, UCL, Leeds, Cambridge and Central St. Martins.

Undergraduate and above:

Specific study on behavioural change with regards to climate change and aid. I audited Master’s level social science methodology courses to complement this study as well as the rest of the course. This included a course on qualitative text and discourse analysis and qualitative research methods. I should emphasise here that my experience is qualitative.

Pro-bono social impact consultancy experience at 180 Degrees Consulting which included practical application of qualitative research skills including interrogative questions and survey creation and interpretation of qualitative result.

Dissertation (with distinction) on the roles and uses of additionality within sustainable finance, using which drew the theoretical foundations of institutional work, performativity, and sensemaking from the academic schools of economic sociology and organisation management in order to understand the roles and uses of additionality in both the discursive and operational spaces of sustainable finance. I undertook semi-structured one-on-one interviews and coded the qualitative data in NVivo to draw conclusions.
