About Me
I am a Geography specialist currently teaching at King’s College School, Wimbledon, where I work with students across GCSE, A Level and IB, with consistently strong outcomes, including over 90% of students achieving the top grade (9 at GCSE, A* at A Level and 7 at IB). I have a strong and consistent track record of supporting students not only to meet but to exceed their predicted grades.
Alongside my classroom teaching, I have extensive experience supporting students on a one-to-one basis through academic mentoring, university preparation and key transition points. I offer a distinctive combination of rigorous academic teaching and strong pastoral support, enabling students to make sustained academic progress while also developing confidence, independence and resilience.
My approach is centred on the individual student. I focus on building deep subject understanding through high level questioning, structured discussion and regular application to exam questions. As an Edexcel and AQA examiner, I bring a precise understanding of assessment and exam technique, helping students to understand exactly what is required to achieve the highest grades.
I actively stretch high achieving students through analytical discussion and synoptic thinking, and I introduce challenging academic material beyond the specification to develop intellectual curiosity and independence. Alongside this, I work closely with students to manage pressure, overcome anxiety and develop effective revision strategies, building strong relationships that enable them to perform at their best.
Recent tuition
GCSE Geography (Confidence Building and Exam Performance)
I worked with a student who had strong underlying ability but was underperforming due to low confidence and inconsistent exam technique. Through structured sessions combining clear explanation, high-level questioning, and targeted exam practice, I built both understanding and self-belief. The student became more secure in approaching unfamiliar questions and achieved a Grade 9.
GCSE Geography (Grade 5 to Grade 9)
This student was academically able but lacked confidence in exam situations. Sessions focused on building a secure and connected understanding of the course, often using large-scale mind maps and whiteboard work to link topics synoptically. I used high-level questioning to stretch thinking, alongside regular exam practice to build fluency. I also addressed anxiety and fear of failure, significantly improving confidence. The student achieved a Grade 9.
IB Geography Higher Level (Grade 5 to Grade 7)
This student initially struggled to move beyond descriptive responses and lacked confidence in evaluation. Through structured sessions combining precise subject knowledge, targeted questioning, and exposure to more demanding academic material, the student developed a more sophisticated approach. Regular timed practice embedded exam technique, leading to greater confidence and independence. The student achieved the top grade of 7.
A Level Geography (B to A* achieved)
I supported a high-attaining A Level student working at a B grade but aiming for an A*. Sessions focused on refining evaluation, developing more sophisticated arguments, and strengthening synoptic links across the course. I introduced challenging material beyond the specification and used regular timed essays to develop depth of analysis. The student gained greater precision and confidence and achieved an A*.
Oxford Geography Application
I worked closely with a highly able student preparing for an Oxford Geography application. Sessions were designed to stretch and challenge, using complex academic reading and discussion to develop intellectual curiosity beyond the specification. I guided the student with their personal statement, ensuring they reflected genuine academic engagement and I conducted multiple mock interviews using high-level questioning and unfamiliar material. Alongside this, I focused on building confidence in articulating ideas clearly under pressure. The student secured an Oxford offer and achieved an A*.
Cambridge Geography Application
I supported a student in translating strong academic potential into a compelling Oxbridge application. I provided structured guidance on personal statement development and interview preparation, focusing on analytical thinking, responsiveness, and clarity of communication. Sessions incorporated real-world geographical issues to deepen understanding and encourage independent thinking. The student secured a Cambridge offer and achieved an A*.
Hobbies
Outside of tutoring, I spend much of my time with my twin daughters and our Springador, and I value the balance this brings to a busy and demanding working life. I enjoy running and long walks, often by the river, which I find both energising and an important opportunity to create space for balance and reflection, something I speak about often with students in the context of managing academic pressure and maintaining perspective.
I also have a longstanding interest in geography beyond the classroom, particularly in how places evolve over time and how global processes shape local experiences. I enjoy travelling and exploring new environments, whether through cities, landscapes or cultural experiences, and I actively draw on these real world examples in my teaching. This helps students connect complex geographical ideas to the world around them in a meaningful and engaging way.
