About Me

I have a blended style and tend to prefer a facilitator and demonstrator style of teaching. My approach to tutoring varies according to my students. I tend to spend the initial time with my clients understanding their individual needs and like to experiment with a variety of teaching techniques and methodologies to see what works best for them.

Recent tuition

Most of my experience is in ESL tuition and French to adults at intermediate level. I have prepared students for oral exams and work interviews. I have knowledge of the French, Spanish and English GCSE curriculum and am able to apply my teaching methods to these and to prepare cohesive teaching plans that are tailored to each of my students.

French (Undergraduate University Level)

I tutored D at intermediate level for her Undergraduate French Module. She had experience learning a language but needed particular support with grammar and pronunciation as well as for her oral tests and essays. We worked on specific grammar points ensuring she understood how to use them in context. I created a series of exercises that we repeated weekly to work on her pronunciation and mentored with the oral exam, offering regular feedback on her oral tests and essays. She received an average of 73 on her second year assessments.

English GCSE equivalent (Quatrième in France)

I tutored M for six months and prepared her for her year 9 English exam. She is an extremely bright girl, with a creative and analytical mind and a broad range of interests. To nurture these and enhance her natural skills, we engaged in debates on a regular basis and analysed opinion articles. She was extremely fluent in her speech however this meant she also made regular mistakes with regards to grammar and inaccurate pronunciation that had become ingrained. Her robust character made her very open to feedback and corrections so we made it a focus to perfect her speech.

English GCSE equivalent (Quatrième in France)

I tutored M for six months and prepared him for his year 9 English exam. M hadn’t particularly enjoyed learning English in the past and preferred subjects related to science. However he thrived when talking about sports or current affairs because he was truly passionate about these subjects. Pronunciation and grammar were a main focus with M and in the time we worked together his average improved by a grade.

A level equivalent (Terminale in France)

I worked with A for two months to prepare her for her final apprenticeship exam in which she was to perform a role play. Her main problem was her limited range of vocabulary and struggled in understanding unexpected terminology in context so would freeze. I supported her in expanding her vocabulary, enhancing her comprehension skills and responding calmly under pressure with meditative breathing exercises. Her feedback was that she felt a lot more confident and empowered to sit the exam which she passed.

Business English

I tutored R in ESL. He had just got a job in an international start up and required weekly sessions with me to learn the terminology pertaining to his business as well as advanced grammatical structures to express complex ideas and colloquialisms in order to establish positive relationships with his coworkers. He reported feeling more confident and able to accurately express himself in his new role.

Hobbies and Interests

I am interested in various types of education including Montessori and Steiner. I am interested in various forms of expression including singing and dance as well as healing therapies like yoga and massage. In my spare time I go to contemporary dance classes, sing in a choir and am currently taking a course in music production and massage. I am a cycling enthusiast and am inspired by fiction novels, different cultures and nature.

Testimonials

French student (University level)

“I am writing to recommend Giorgia for a teaching position. I am currently studying a year two French module with The Open University for which Giorgia has been my tutor throughout and I hope to continue with her until its end. Giorgia’s lessons are methodical, structured and organised. She is extremely attentive and my needs are precisely focussed on. She uses a range of teaching approaches which result in dynamic and productive lessons. She is both patient and purposeful and gives useful feedback. I have found Giorgia’s teaching to be extremely effective and I am very pleased with the progress I have made. At the beginning of my studies my gaps in grammar and struggles with pronunciation made me uncertain of my ability to complete the course but due to Giorgia’s guidance and support not only do I feel much more confident, my course results consistently reflect a huge improvement in all four areas: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Giorgia has been absolutely indispensable and I recommend her without hesitation.”
