I am a great listener, I’m empathetic and have a good sense of humour. Age 3 Phonics, Comprehension, Oral language and social skills
I worked with this student for 2 months. We worked on phonics, comprehension, oral language and social skills, and both his mother and I were thrilled at his progress.
7+ Exam Preparation – English
Adam struggled to write a story, express his ideas verbally and comprehend what he was reading. We worked together twice a week to develop his writing structure and ideas, and within weeks he was writing structured stories split into well-defined paragraphs. His writing speed also increased by over 100%. We worked on out-loud storytelling and he was able to express his ideas much more fluently. I also helped Adam to develop reading comprehension strategies, so he has steps to follow when working out the meaning of what he is reading. Adam is attending Wetherby Pre-Preparatory at the moment and will be taking his 7+ exams at the end of the year.
Year 2 SATS – English
Georgia was reading well-below the expected level for her age, and she wasn’t writing full sentences. I worked with her intensively throughout Year 2, developing her reading comprehension, spelling and writing composition. She was then able to use question stems to develop her own comprehension and writing independently, which I followed-up on when working with her one-to-one. She was able to show considerable progress and achieved the expected level in her Year 2 SAT exams.
Year 2 EFL
Sam had recently arrived in England, aged 7, and he could not speak English. I worked with him twice a week for an hour over 5 months, and with my support he was able to verbally engage in everyday English and develop his reading skills. Due to this support, Sam was also able to make good friends in his class, which developed his confidence further.
Age 8 Socio-emotional skills and language development
I mentor M on a weekly basis, working on her language development and her socio-emotional skills. We have been working together for over 6 months and she is doing really well. I make sure to set challenging goals for her, while helping to build both her confidence and resilience.
Year 4 Maths
Usman loved drawing and creative exercises, however he was struggling in Maths and was well-below his expected level. I worked with him every day for a year, where we celebrated his enjoyment of creativity and used this to help him improve in maths. He progressed to be in the top Maths group in his class, developing confidence and fluency in his maths skills.
Molly was a shy student who struggled with her self-confidence and writing skills. I worked with her for an hour every week, for 4 months, to develop both her confidence, vocabulary, interest in reading and writing structure. Molly made significant progress in all areas, as evidenced in reports from her teachers. Molly was attending a secondary school in New Zealand, where she was able to move up groups and continue to develop her skills in following years.
Hobbies and Interests
I enjoy playing tennis, because it’s a great mix of socialising, exercise and focusing my mind. I enjoy mentoring through The Kids’ Network, because working one on one with a young person enables me to see the difference I am making and share new experiences. I also love the cinema, visiting museums, walking in the city and country, and cooking a nice meal. They all give me a lot of enjoyment, and are experiences that are naturally shared with others.
