KS2 & KS3 French

My weekly individual sessions with two siblings (Year 3 and Year 7) are so enjoyable, lively and dynamic. I managed to bring the language to life very quickly after our first lesson and created a self sufficiency in study habits which encourage and give them a desire to continue as far as possible with French language acquisition. We use a variety of techniques (online drills, textbook studies, films and general conversations), which helps them to improve upon their skills and build a good foundation.

Common Entrance French

I tutored O from Sept 2023, a year eight pupil who was sitting his 13+ common entrance this summer for entry to Eton. His current school did not help prepare students for the exam and as a result we worked on the subject over a year, going over the exam questions, improving exam technique and familiarising him with all the material for The Independent Schools Examinations Board (ISEB). I managed to equip O with strong foundations, to build confidence and be able to articulate clearly orally and in writing and finally helped him to understand how subjects connect with each other. I also set homework and gave constructive feedback during and after each lesson, alongside tips for the parents to support their child in the preparation for the exam.

GCSE French

I was a GCSE tutor for a student (Year 11 student at Ashford Senior School), who went from a predicted C to receiving an A overall in ten months. My student loved the language but found it hard to flourish in a school environment. Combining my in-depth understanding of the curriculum and effective teaching techniques, I managed to establish a genuine connection with her, and to give her confidence in her ability to learn languages, which ultimately led to GCSE success.

GCSE French home schooling – Autism and Anxiety

I tutored a student over 18 months (Year 10 & Year 11) for his AQA GCSE French. The student was home-schooled, as he found difficult to settle into school. He is on the autism spectrum and has anxiety. Our first priority was to establish a positive and effective relationship. In collaboration with the student, parents and carers I was able to understand his strengths, interests and challenges. The voice of the young person contributed to adapt the curriculum, teaching and learning to promote wellbeing and success for the student. I have lots of materials, worksheets and practice exam questions. My lessons are very organised and structured according to the specific needs of the student who wants to study the GCSE French syllabus in a homeschool environment.

Year 12 French

With this student’s tutorials, we went back to basics, creating a set of grammar notes, and working on reading, writing and oral presentations for the whole of Year 12. This helped to increase her confidence in speaking and also taught her invaluable techniques for verb conjugations. In the end, she was able to achieve a 9 in her French AS Level results.

Year 12 / Year 13 French

I provided tuition to a student (Hampton Court House), who was experiencing anxiety disorder over 14 months. My goal was to enable her to actively engage in our lessons and boost her confidence. I quickly assessed the areas that she needed to work on and created a positive rapport with my student. She was able to learn in a comfortable environment through one-to-one learning. I adapted my teaching style accordingly to result in more positive outcomes. She comfortably met deadlines, stayed motivated and lowered her anxiety.

Cambridge Pre-U French

I tutored a student (Westminster School) for Cambridge Pre-U French over six months. I delivered individually tailored and personalised learning plans to prepare Paper 1 Speaking and Paper 3 Writing and Usage. She made excellent progress with comprehension, discussion and writing essays in French. She said that my lessons and guidance were instrumental across the Cambridge Pre-U process and the acquisition of the language.

Adult learner French

I worked with an adult learner who was a beginner in French. Over six months, I helped them develop the language skills to hold day-to-day conversations and deal with common situations – shopping, ordering in restaurants, and basic communication in French. With adult learners, I tend to adapt the learning resources from exams like GCSE or A Level to suit the more conversational language skills required for everyday life in France.

Year 13 Photography A-level

I supported student S with her A-level photography (Eduqas) over 12 months with processing ideas, experimenting both digital or film based photography, conducting research and understanding the feedback from her teacher at school; but above all I wanted to inspire her to try new things. I also helped S with the essay part of her course as well as curate work for digital folios and her personal statements. The student’s predicted grade has gone from a low B to a A in just a few months.

Year 12-13 Art & Design A-Level

I was tutoring R from April Year 12 until the end of Year 13 for her AQA Art & Design A-Level. I quickly understood my student’s needs and I gave insights on how to structure her ideas from the beginning. Before starting working with me, R was struggling with the course, was demotivated and lacked direction. After a few weeks she increased her confidence and developed many new ideas. I helped her build a beautiful portfolio, taught her essential art skills, and supported her with the coursework (personal & practical investigation). Overall it was great to see R developing in depth thinking and creative practise.

Hobbies

Cooking (because I am French!) / swimming (gives me a sense of wellbeing) / cinema, arts and culture (to engage with various perspectives, and explore the world around us and experience beauty).
