About Me

My tutoring style centres around making complex topics easier to understand by linking their application to real-world examples. I find that, especially with STEM subjects, focusing solely on the theory without relating it to the importance of understanding can lead to students being disengaged with the subject. I specialise in improving my students’ confidence with each subject by unlocking their curiosity and motivation to learn.

Furthermore, my students have all gone on to significantly improve their exam results, crediting my use of exam-style questions and past papers to helping them adapt their answering style to align with marking scheme requirements. My teaching style is heavily adaptable to meet the unique needs of each child, whether they require more help understanding theory or want to get more practice with answering questions, and I will check in with my students often to ensure that they are constantly getting the most out of their lessons.

I take great pride in my ability to assist with a range of SEN needs, including dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD and autism. For those with autism and/or ADHD, I champion a clear, structured and adaptable teaching approach tailored to the individual’s preferred learning style to maintain focus and engagement. For those with dyslexia and dyscalculia, I frequently use visual aids, practical examples and rephrasing difficult questions in multiple ways to improve understanding. I am confident working collaboratively with a student’s wider SEN support teams.

Recent tuition

My tuition experience is centred on the Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Science), Geography and Mathematics. I’ve successfully supported teenagers of all ages, across a variety of national exam boards and levels.

Mathematics, KS3/Year 9 (Edexcel)

This student’s parents enlisted my help in tutoring this student because she was struggling to understand the KS3 math syllabus and failing her exams, and this was significantly impeding her confidence with the subject. Her main problem area was dealing with the jump in difficulty level, particularly with Algebra and Trigonometry. I tutored her over a nine month period and I’m happy to report that her most recent report card showed above 90% for her three most recent topic tests.

Chemistry, GCSE (AQA)

This student reached out to me for tutoring because she was struggling to understand the syllabus for her upcoming GCSE Chemistry exams and had three months to revise before her mocks. She was part of a large classroom and struggled with understanding topics because she had no one to help answer her questions. Because of the shorter timeframe, I focused my lessons on going over the topics she was particularly struggling with and using past exam papers to improve her exam technique. In the end, she managed to improve her grades from a Grade 5 in previous exams to a Grade 8 in her mocks.

Geography, IGCSE (Edexcel)

This student hired me as a tutor because she was struggling to understand her Geography syllabus, particularly the concepts related to rivers and coastal processes. We focused our lessons on using diagrams and visual aids to understand the evolution of each landform better, and used flashcards and notes to grasp the social, environmental, and economic impacts of each case study and topic. Over the last year, the student’s confidence in the subject has improved greatly, scoring Grade 7 and 8 in her last topic tests.

Biology, GCSE (AQA)

This student’s parents reached out for support as their child was having trouble understanding the GCSE Biology syllabus and her grades were suffering because of it. They wanted to set tutoring up early while the student was in Year 10, so that she would have the time to improve before her GCSE exams in Year 11. I took time in the beginning to speak with the student and understand which topics she liked and didn’t like, and framed our lessons around going over the whole Year 10 syllabus from start to finish to ensure her foundational knowledge on the subject was strong. The student benefitted from 1-on-1 attention, where she was able to ask questions and discuss topics she had a hard time understanding. After a year of support, she has greatly improved her topic test marks by 2-3 grades each time and continues to tutor with me as we prepare for her upcoming GCSE exams.

Geography, GCSE (AQA)

The student’s parents sought tutoring for their child as he had scored a D in his last Geography exam, and they wanted to improve this grade to a B or an A in time for his GCSE exams. After speaking with the student, I understood that he had a good foundational understanding of the syllabus but was struggling to word his answers using the correct terminology to align with the marking scheme in his exams. He also struggled with structuring his answers for longer mark questions. As a result, our lessons focused on practising exam-style questions and going over past topics to ensure he had a fresh understanding of topics he had covered in Year 10. I have been tutoring him for six months now and his confidence and grades have improved significantly, with him scoring Bs and As in most of his recent topic tests.

Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, GCSE (Edexcel)

This student’s parents sought tutoring for their child as he wanted to study Engineering at university, and they wanted to ensure their child was on the ball with his STEM subjects throughout his GCSE period. The student was in Year 9 but had started the GCSE syllabus in school, and the parent wanted to ensure the student had extra support to not fall behind in any of his sciences. The child was good at Physics but needed extra help understanding topics in Biology and Chemistry. We had weekly lessons, rotating subjects each week. I communicated with the parent and aligned my lessons with what was being taught by his teachers in school, so that the tutoring lessons would be a chance for him to go over topics he struggled with understanding in school. The student’s confidence in each subject has greatly improved, and he never wants to miss a lesson, often asking me to reschedule if he ever goes on holiday and is unable to attend.

Geography, A Level (Edexcel)

This student was looking for tutoring as he wanted to bring his grades up from a B to an A* in time for his A Level exams in four months. His knowledge and understanding of most topics were good, but he often lost marks in exam technique as he did not understand how to structure essays well or how to use case studies effectively. As a result, my lessons with him focused strongly on going through past year papers together and creating plans on how to answer different types of essay questions. I provided easy templates to use and ensured that the student understood what to include in an introduction, conclusion, and how to structure an argument to reach the highest level of marks. He is now one month away from his A Level exams and has brought his topic test marks from a B to a high A, and I am working hard in this final push to bring those grades up a little more to reach that A* goal he is aiming for.

Environmental Science, A Level (AQA)

The student reached out for help as he was failing his Environmental Science A Level exams, scoring Es in his last few exams. He wanted to try and improve his understanding and exam technique as much as possible before his mocks in three months. After some consultation with the student, I found that he struggled with the content of the syllabus, and so I structured my lessons on going through the entire syllabus from start to finish in short, easy-to-understand notes I created for him that summarised what was being taught in his textbook. Our 1-hour lessons were structured by providing two sets of 20 minutes of teaching followed by ten minutes of questions so that he could better absorb the information without feeling fatigued. His confidence and understanding in the subject have improved greatly since our lessons have started, and he is currently scoring Bs and Cs in his topic tests.

Environmental Science, AP

This student required online Environmental Science tutoring for his AP exams. He had been scoring 1s and 2s in previous internal assessments at his school and was feeling disheartened about his upcoming exams. After some discussion, it became evident that the student was struggling with gaps in understanding the content and also with exam technique. Our initial lessons focused on filling in the gaps in his knowledge by going through the syllabus from the beginning and focusing on topics he had problems with. Closer to the exams, we switched to practising past FRQs and multiple-choice questions. The student hasn’t yet sat his AP exams, but internal testing from his school shows an improvement in predicted test scores.

Hobbies

I love the outdoors and going on hiking trips with my best friends. I also love to travel and share a common language with new people I meet, so I speak English, Malay and Indonesian fluently and am currently learning Mandarin, Arabic and Swahili.
