About Me
My tutoring style is supportive, structured, and highly personalised. I begin by identifying each student’s strengths and areas for improvement, then tailor lessons to build confidence and understanding. I combine clear explanation with guided practice and regular feedback to help students develop independent thinking skills. For younger learners, I keep sessions engaging and interactive, while for exam-focused students I emphasise structure, technique, and time management. I’m flexible in my approach and always adapt my methods to suit each individual’s learning style.
Recent tuition
I provide tuition for both school and university entrance exams. I help students prepare for 11+ exams, focusing on English, comprehension, creative writing, and verbal reasoning, and I also support older students applying to Oxbridge or other competitive English courses, working on analytical writing, close reading, and interview preparation. In addition, I have experience teaching literacy and phonics to Early Years students. I aim to make lessons engaging and tailored to each student, helping them build confidence, improve technique, and express their ideas clearly.
Early Years Phonics
I worked with a younger student who initially lacked confidence with reading and found blending sounds challenging. We’ve been focusing on secure sound recognition, blending practice, and building comfort with common phonics patterns. I saw very encouraging progress in both fluency and accuracy, alongside a noticeable boost in confidence and independence.
11+ English Preparation
I supported this student with 11+ English over 9 months. He was academically able but lacked confidence in reading comprehension and found it challenging to develop and structure ideas in creative writing under timed conditions. Tuition focused on close reading, inference, vocabulary development, and clear planning strategies for creative responses. I also incorporated regular timed practice to build exam confidence and stamina. Through structured, personalised support, the student became more confident, consistent, and effective in approaching 11+ English-style papers.
GCSE English Language
I tutored this student in English Language over 12 months. She was confident in reading and grammar but needed support with exam technique and writing under timed conditions. Lessons focused on structuring answers, clarity, and comprehension practice. By the end of tuition, her Language skills improved significantly, contributing to a stronger overall grade.
GCSE English Literature
I tutored this student (Fulham Cross) in English Literature over 12 months. She initially struggled with essay structure and analysing texts. Lessons focused on close reading, exploring themes and characters, and developing structured essay responses. Through tailored support, her Literature skills improved steadily, helping her achieve a much stronger overall grade, initially working at a Level 2 and achieving a Level 6 in her final exams.
GCSE English Language and Literature
I tutored this student (Chelsea Academy) as he prepared for retakes of his English Language and Literature GCSEs. He initially struggled to meet the required grades, so lessons focused on essay structure, comprehension, and exam technique. After one-to-one tuition, he successfully passed both exams, demonstrating increased confidence and understanding.
A Level English
I tutored this student in A Level English over ten months. The student needed support with critical analysis and essay planning for exams and coursework. Through structured lessons and personalised feedback, their essay writing improved significantly, and they gained greater confidence in tackling complex texts and exam-style questions.
Oxford University English applications
I supported this student over eight weeks in preparation for Oxford University English applications. We focused on essay writing, close textual analysis, and interview practice. The student developed stronger analytical skills, improved clarity of expression, and greater confidence, leaving them well-prepared for the application and interview process.
Hobbies
Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time outdoors – especially walking my dog, which is a great way to unwind and think creatively. I also love roller-skating, which keeps me active and always challenges me to improve my balance and focus. Art is another big passion of mine; I enjoy visiting galleries and creating my own work when I can. These hobbies keep me curious, energetic and reflective, qualities I bring into my tutoring to help students stay motivated and engaged.
