"Darius, you have been an excellent help for my daughter, and she said she very much enjoyed the tuition sessions with you. She was a high achiever already, but I think the session with you helped give her that edge she needed for the entrance exam. I offer you my greatest thanks."

About Me

Full-time private academic tutor and LSE Prize Winner – highest overall score on the Accounting & Finance BSc programme.

My specialist subjects are Mathematics, Economics and Business Studies which I typically teach up to IB or A-Level, although I can these teach at higher levels upon request. I have also supported many pupils with their entrance exams, UCAS applications and University interview preparation.

I graduated from The London School of Economics top of my degree class, having achieved the highest overall score on the Accounting & Finance BSc programme. I studied a range of disciplines including Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics and Statistics. I scored exceptionally high marks in all of these exams, and have a genuine passion and interest in these subjects.

I have excelled academically, and am keen to pass on my methods/techniques of studying to other students to help them realise their highest potential. I believe learning should not be simply confined to the arbitrary boundaries set in the curriculum. The most effective learning, and development of knowledge comes from studying beyond these, in order to obtain a varied and wide-ranged understanding of a subject. This helps a student master the subject and to perform well in classwork, homework and exams.

I believe that each student needs to be tutored in a unique way suitable to them, and as such take an innovative approach with each student.

Recent tuition

I am an experienced tutor with over 8000 hours of private tutoring experience, having worked with students up to Master’s level. I have helped pupils secure entrance into the UK’s leading public schools and universities, and have helped many pupils achieve grades A/A* in their GCSE and A-Level examinations. My previous tuition has been a mixture of home-schooling placements, regular evening tuition and short-term intensive placements prior to examinations. Highlights include:

A2 Economics and Mathematics

I tutored a pupil extensively during his sixth-form application process and A-Levels, helping him score an average of 98% in his AS levels and to obtain A2 grades of A*A*A.  In addition, academic tuition, I also provided personal statement and interview support. He successfully received an offer from Christ’s College Cambridge to study Economics as well as offers from LSE and UCL.

AS & A2 Level Economics

I worked with a pupil from Westminster who was struggling with her Economics classwork and who had fallen behind the rest of her class. Having not studied Economics or similar subjects before she found many of the basic concepts quite strange and difficult to grasp. By focusing on key foundational concepts and gradually building upon these I managed to drastically improve her understanding of the subject and also her class/homework performance.

AS Level Business Studies

I had numerous tuition sessions for AS Level Business Studies, providing additional support to that which he was receiving at boarding school. We focused on his areas of weakness, as he wanted additional support on these topics to ensure he could continue to perform well at school in the highly competitive classroom environment. There was a particular focus on the case study exam questions which the student initially felt very apprehensive about, but towards the end of our sessions felt fully comfortable answering these fully independently.

International Baccalaureate Economics

I provided intensive week-long Economics tuition to an upper sixth-form student during her half term holidays from school. We primarily focused on revising material she had previously learnt, and on studying next term’s topics to ensure she would remain an exceptional performer in school. I also helped her cover additional material beyond the curriculum to further develop her understanding of the subject and to better prepare her for her university studies.

IB HL Business Studies

I helped a higher level student prepare for her final exams, completing her IA assignments for Business, and also her extended essay, which she chose to do in Business. We held three regular weekly sessions throughout the year. She received a 7 for Business Studies and received the school award for the best extended essay assignment.

Cambridge Economics Interview Preparation

I spent a large number of hours with a sixth form pupil, helping him to prepare for his Economics interview at Cambridge University. We spent time preparing in a number of ways, from revising the A-level material, to discussing interview technique and how to stand out as a first-rate candidate. We also held a number of mock interviews and practised answering the classic unfamiliar and advanced theoretical questions common at Oxbridge interviews.

Personal Statement Support – Economics

I completed a number of sessions with a student who applied to study Economics at University. We spent the time writing, structuring and reviewing her personal statement to ensure it displayed sufficient enthusiasm for the subject and an element of uniqueness to make sure it stood out. I was pleased to see her secure an offer to her first choice course at Cambridge as well as LSE and UCL.

Personal Statement Support – LSE Masters in Finance

I spent many hours working intensively with an overseas student wishing to apply for the Finance Masters programme at LSE. The student was having particular difficulty with discussing their academic interests and how they would further these during their study, and also demonstrating that they were the right candidate for this course. We spent time addressing these issues as well as ensuring the entire statement was clear, concise and engaging.

Undergraduate Finance

I held three regular weekly sessions with a BSc Finance student to teach the course from the fundamental principles up to the level which was required by her exams. I was pleased to see excellent progress in the students’ performance over the course of our tuition and am pleased that she now hopes to pursue Master’s level study in Financial Economics.

Undergraduate Business Management

I supported a third year university student with her dissertation, which focused on the international launch of a new consumer goods platform. The work demanding but the student received a first class mark and ranked amongst the top 10% of students in her year for the piece.

Undergraduate Management Studies

I aided a student with her university coursework assignments in Accounting, Marketing and Strategy modules. We started by revising the material from her textbook and lecture notes, before preparing and reviewing several drafts. She achieved a first class mark all assignments, relative to her prior lower second mark for the work she completed before the tuition.

Master’s International Business and Undergraduate Management

I supported a student throughout his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Cass Business School (now known as Bayes). He very infrequently attended university, and so I was responsible for teaching him the majority of the course and preparing him for the exams. He received a high 2:1 in BSc Management and a Distinction in MSc International Business, and ranked among the top 5% of his cohort.

Hobbies and Interests

I am involved in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities and have a varied range of interests outside of private tutoring.
