About Me

I have a flexible yet consistent approach to tutoring, always prioritising the needs and wants of the student. I assess a student’s current level and establish what they’d like to achieve, then plan out a route to help them achieve this. I have a high-energy and enthusiastic style of teaching, with a flair for breaking down complex topics. I encourage students to have a rigorous, strategic and independent approach to problem-solving.

Recent tuition

11+ English, Maths and Reasoning

I tutored this student in 11+ (maths, comprehension, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, and spatial reasoning.) We worked on these topics for just over a year. She had good results in school, but from the initial assessment, she was not predicted to pass the 11+. Her parents thought that with tuition, however, she would be able to familiarise herself with the style and effective approach to answering questions on these topics. I mentored her through strategic checklists, especially with non-verbal reasoning and understanding of how to work at a good pace. She passed the 11+ and went on to attend a grammar school.

11+ English, Maths and Reasoning

I tutored this student for the 11+ (maths, comprehension, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, and spatial reasoning) for just over a year. She was incredibly bright and when I had tutored her before in English and maths, demonstrated high potential, but her parents were confused by the examination system, so knew that tuition would increase her chances. I mentored her by facilitating speedier mental maths, inculcating a checklist approach to non-verbal reasoning, and encouraging further reading to increase speed in answering verbal reasoning questions. She passed the 11+.

GCSE English Literature

I tutored this student in English Literature GCSE, with a focus on Jane Eyre. We worked on this subject for two years. She had great ideas about the text but had a lack of self-belief, which lead to frustration when trying to write and structure her ideas, resulting in achieving C grades for essays. I mentored her through this by using oracy and discussion to help her express her ideas, encouraging free-writing to unknot her ideas, introducing a structured and themed approach to essays, and encouraging further reading. She achieved an A in English Literature.

GCSE French

I tutored this student in French GCSE, primarily focusing on the oral examination. We worked on this for over two months. She had a great range of vocabulary and ideas but was struggling with her grammar, fluency and pronunciation. She thought that with some tutoring, even if only a couple of months, she’d be able to iron out these creases in her French speaking so she could get into her first-choice sixth form. I mentored her by meeting consistently to practise her answers aloud. This resulted in her obtaining an A, and getting into her first-choice sixth-form.

GCSE Maths

I tutored this student in his Mathematics GCSE for over a year. He was an enthusiastic learner but found it tricky to keep on task so thought tuition would provide a time when he needed to focus on maths. It became apparent that he was struggling to identify what certain questions were asking him to do, so I provided some approaches to help identify the type of question being asked so that he could implement the right type of calculations. This led to him achieving the grade required to do his maths A-level.

Hobbies and Interests

I write and perform stand-up comedy across London and have recently started writing plays. I’m interested in philosophy – what people think and feel, and why and how they do. I enjoy going to the gym, running, and cycling.
