About Me

My tutoring style is that of a positive, enthusiastic and passionate teacher who motivates students to produce their best work. My teaching is shaped around each student’s individual goals, strengths, and way of learning. I like to combine structured guidance with a more intuitive, open-ended approach, so lessons feel both focused and creatively engaging. My aim is always to help students build confidence in their own ideas while developing solid technical skills and a clearer personal visual language.

Recent tuition

GCSE and A-Level Art

I have been tutoring this student over two years now for both GCSE and A-Level Art. The student is attending a school with limited experience supporting the Art curriculum for students and needed additional guidance with coursework, project development and written work. I helped develop projects through artist research and technical experimentation. The student achieved a Grade 9 at GCSE and is currently predicted an A in A-Level Art.

A-Level Art

I tutored this student over one year to improve her A-Level Art grade to strengthen her university applications. The student struggled with coursework development, confidence in expressing her ideas and maintaining motivation between sessions. I provided support with artist research, materials, techniques and in the development of each project to make stronger and more personal work. I helped set achievable goals and provided regular feedback. The student achieved an A grade in Art and secured a place on their chosen university course.

Product Design Portfolio for US Universities

I worked with this student over one year to develop a product design portfolio for applications to top US universities. Although the student had a strong creative background, primarily in fine art, they had limited experience in product design. I introduced key product design concepts, supported project development and helped structure the portfolio. The student successfully submitted a competitive portfolio for university applications and received offers from Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology and Savannah College of Art and Design.

BA Graphic Design Portfolio

I worked with this student for eighteen months to prepare a portfolio for UK based BA Graphic Design programmes. The student was highly ambitious and talented and wanted to gain direct entry to degree-level study without completing a foundation year. I helped strengthen project development, portfolio structure, annotations and critical engagement with graphic design. I also helped the student prepare for interviews for these courses. The student secured places on competitive degree courses at UAL such as Chelsea College of Art and Camberwell College of Arts.

BA Media Portfolio

I worked with this student for four months to prepare a portfolio for Media applications to competitive universities including Goldsmiths and UCL. The student was talented and very proactive, producing conceptually strong work influenced by music and contemporary culture, but needed support translating ideas into fully realised projects that could be shown and explained to an application committee. I helped him shape the portfolio through research, critical discussion and project development. The student successfully gained admission to all their courses and is currently studying Media at UCL.

BA Curation and History of Art Applications

I worked with this student over two years to support applications in Curation and History of Art. The student had experience studying Art History but limited knowledge of curation and contemporary art. I provided academic enrichment in this area by supporting her with her portfolio as well as written applications and strengthening analytical writing. The student successfully secured a place on her preferred BA course of Culture, Criticism and Curation at Central Saint Martins, UAL.

Illustration Portfolio for US Universities

I worked with this student over two years to prepare a portfolio for highly competitive illustration programmes in the United States. The student was talented but initially lacked knowledge of contemporary illustration practices and portfolio expectations. Together we developed a wide range of highly personal projects across different media. The student received offers from multiple leading US institutions such as Parsons, Pratt, SAIC, SVA, MassArt, Otis , UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis and chose to attend the School of Visual Arts (SVA).

Fine Art Portfolio Development

I worked with this student over three years, initially supporting a portfolio intended for BA Architecture courses before later transitioning to Fine Art applications in the UK. The student was highly driven but lacked confidence in pursuing Fine Art due to family expectations. I provided project guidance, portfolio mentoring and interview preparation. The student successfully secured offers from several leading art courses such as The Slade School of Fine Art, Central Saint Martins, Goldsmiths, Edinburgh and Glasgow school of art. She also developed the confidence to present and discuss her work independently in interviews.

Fine Art Portfolio for US Art Schools

I worked with this student over one year to prepare a Fine Art portfolio for applications to institutions including RISD, Parsons, SCAD and SAIC. The student was exceptionally motivated but initially lacked direction regarding portfolio content and presentation. Together we established clear goals, developed ambitious projects and refined the overall portfolio structure. The student received multiple offers and ultimately chose to attend RISD.

History of Art University Applications

I worked with this student over six months to support applications to History of Art programmes at universities including Cambridge, The Courtauld, UCL, St Andrews and Edinburgh. The student had extensive experience and enthusiasm for the subject but found it difficult to communicate this effectively in writing. I helped refine her personal statement and academic reflections, leading to interview invitations and ultimately an offer to study History of Art at the University of Cambridge.

Hobbies

I am deeply committed to engaging with art through close observation and critical reflection. Regular visits to exhibitions have enriched my understanding of both historical and contemporary art, a knowledge I consider essential for teaching. Living and working as an artist in London, I enjoy frequenting artist-run spaces as well as renowned galleries, exposing myself to a wide array of artistic expressions.

My passion lies in art history, rooted in my upbringing in Rome and my familiarity with Italian art and painting. Artists like Tintoretto have significantly influenced my painting by emphasising the urgency of emotional communication over technical perfection. Additionally, at UCL I developed a strong interest in philosophy, particularly aesthetics, with contemporary Italian thinkers such as Giorgio Agamben shaping my theoretical perspective. I am an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction, often reading simultaneously in Italian, French, and English.

Outside academia, I practise Transcendental Meditation, yoga, and Gaga movement. I appreciate how these practices connect mind and body in ways that are both restorative and energising. They support my creative thinking, help me stay present, and deepen my engagement with the world around me.

Testimonials

“I worked with Carlotta throughout high school while developing my Visual Communication Design and Art folios, as well as during my university applications. Her feedback helped me strengthen the direction and creativity of my work, and she also supported me with my personal statement and an art analysis essay for UAL. With Carlotta, I was able to articulate my interests in curation and art history much more clearly, and the Programme Leader for Curating at Goldsmiths even emailed me to say they were impressed by my personal statement. With her help, I received offers for Curating and History of Art at Goldsmiths, History of Art at the University of Glasgow, and Culture, Criticism and Curation at UAL. What I found more valuable was Carlotta’s ability to help me clarify and communicate my ideas more confidently, and I’d definitely recommend Carlotta to students applying for competitive art and humanities courses.”

UK University, Art History Application Preparation

“I worked with Carlotta while preparing my portfolio for university applications in Media, including my application to UCL. Initially, I really struggled with second-guessing and a lack of confidence in how I should approach the application process, particularly regarding portfolio formatting and understanding what kinds of work would be most suitable or valuable for the course. However, her feedback helped me develop a much clearer direction and approach throughout the process. Furthermore, Carlotta’s own experience with art portfolios, alongside the exemplars she provided, was extremely helpful in guiding me in the right direction. She also encouraged me to think more critically about the ideas behind my projects rather than focusing only on the final visuals, which significantly improved both the clarity and confidence of my portfolio overall. I ultimately received an offer from UCL, where I’m currently studying Media, and I’d definitely recommend Carlotta to students applying to competitive creative courses.”

UK University, Media Application Preparation

“I worked with Carlotta while preparing my portfolio for US art school applications, including RISD and CalArts. Her feedback helped me clarify the direction of my work, identify which projects needed further development, and present my portfolio much more clearly for submission and interviews. I received offers from Parsons, RISD, SCAD, Pratt, and I’d definitely recommend Carlotta to students applying to competitive art and design courses.”
