About Me

I believe in a warm, friendly approach that allows the student to learn in a way that feels engaging, fun and most importantly open – I link the work to the wider world in a way that feels relatable to the student. In order to assess the student’s level, I work with them on a question and see how they approach it. If their responses are tangential, I might create a lesson plan on how to assess what their key ideas really are, or if their analysis of a key text is sparse, I might analyse with them in a way that sparks their imagination. I pride myself on being sensitive to what the students really need, and this I am sure is linked to my background as an actor and anthropologist, which both are focused on understanding human psychology. My methodology is based on warmth – I think it helps to disarm and genuinely make learning fun in order to catalyse the motivation to do the work. My lesson plans vary student to student, but they tend to involve creating worksheets based on parts of the syllabus the student struggles with, or working through past papers together. With languages, conversation I find is very helpful to land the language in the student’s mind. I also find it helpful to look at exemplar papers, and in the past I have written essays with ‘fixable errors’ for us to improve together.

Recent tuition

13+ Spanish (Common Entrance)

I tutored a highly dyslexic and ADHD student in Spanish over a period of two years. Although all her Common Entrance subjects were initially at Level 1, through consistent support and tailored teaching, she progressed to sit the Level 2 paper and achieved a high score in Spanish. Our lessons focused on personalised, structured learning using a workbook of custom-designed worksheets targeting the tenses and topics she found most challenging.

French GCSE (AQA)

I tutored this student intermittently over the past year. He was a high-achieving pupil at Marlborough but struggled with attention issues and often found it difficult to sustain focus during lessons. French was particularly challenging for him, especially when working on extended written responses, and he had a difficult relationship with his school teacher. Through consistent support, tailored exercises, and building his confidence, he improved significantly, raising his grade from a 5 to a 7 in his final exams.

French (AQA) and English (Edexcel) GCSE, History IGCSE (Cambridge)

I tutored this student online for one year. She initially struggled with translating her strong planning into coherent writing. While she often had well-formed ideas during the planning phase, her writing would become overly complicated and lose focus. To address this, we took a systematic approach: working through exemplar essays, identifying what worked and what didn’t, and collaboratively editing flawed model responses that I created for practice. This helped her develop greater clarity and control in her writing. She found English Language particularly challenging, especially when analysing unseen texts, so we placed additional emphasis on developing close reading and interpretation skills. By the end of our time together, she had significantly improved her confidence and technique, ultimately achieving an A grade.

French A-Level (Edexcel)

I tutored this student in Le Tartuffe by Molière over a period of five months. Despite having missed a significant amount of school due to illness, she made remarkable progress. Together, we built detailed character profiles, carried out a scene-by-scene analysis, and created a timeline of events to clarify the structure of each act. She went on to achieve an A* in her final exam.

History A-Level (Edexcel)

I tutored this student in History throughout her A-Level studies for two years. She has ADHD and initially struggled with structuring essays and retaining chronological detail. Together, we developed a visual essay-planning system using colour-coded timelines and thematic cue cards to organise her thoughts efficiently. Her confidence and focus improved dramatically, and she achieved an A in her final exams.

Media A-Level (Eduqas)

I currently tutor this student in Media Studies at A-Level. He has been struggling with his coursework, particularly in analysing shots and applying theoretical knowledge to the horror films he is studying. We began working together at the start of the academic year, and his teacher has already noted clear improvements in his analytical approach. Our lessons focus on breaking down each shot in detail, spending at least five minutes on each, to build precision and confidence. We begin by referring to his key terminology booklet, gradually reducing reliance on it as he absorbs the concepts.

Reception

I worked with two students in Reception who struggled with reading. I worked from the school’s syllabus but made our lessons as engaging as possible. We made songs for phonics sounds, read stories together and used a variety of games to practice letters and writing stories. As a creative person myself, I really enjoy using storytelling, imagination and song when teaching younger students to make sure that lessons are patient, warm and friendly.

Hobbies

I am an actor, I enjoy getting into the brain of my character and inhabiting their behaviour. The aspect of research in adopting a character is fascinating to me. I am currently at the Royal Central school of Speech and Drama. I have also been a choral singer since I was 11, I think both have an ensemble aspect which I love, as working together to build something is very fulfilling.

Testimonials

“Arianna has supported my Y11 daughter through preparation for English Language and Literature GCSEs, helping her overcome dyslexia and challenges with autism to plan strategies to cope with an overwhelming workload. Arianna built a fantastic relationship, used my daughter’s special interests to motivate her and made their sessions something to look forward to. She also taps into my daughter’s innate creativity – to overcome the drudgery of GCSE – and we will call on her in future for support to creative writing projects”

“Arianna’s brilliant one to one tutoring transformed my 16 year old son’s ability to understand and speak French which he had previously struggled with in a large class setting at school. With Arianna’s ongoing support, expertise and encouragement, he was able to tackle both his French oral and written GCSE paper with confidence this summer.

Arianna has an easy, warm and open manner which is not only non-intimidating to a younger person but also enables her to bring out the best in her pupils. As the parent responsible for arranging these sessions with Arianna over both the email and online, I always found her to be both professional and reliable, as well as punctual, kind and excellent at providing feedback to both of us.”

“I am delighted to provide a reference for Arianna. She worked closely with my daughter, K–, who thoroughly enjoyed learning with her. Arianna is an outstanding tutor – she adapts her teaching pace to suit the student and quickly identifies their needs, tailoring each session to ensure progress.

During a period when K– had to miss school, Arianna’s support proved invaluable. Thanks to her guidance and encouragement, K– achieved an A* in her French A level.

K– found Arianna’s teaching style to be supportive, flexible, and highly effective, and we could not be more pleased with the results.”
