Situated upon 100 acres of woodland in Chichester, West Sussex, is Westbourne House School. Westbourne House is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school, accommodating students aged 2½ to 13. Westbourne was founded in 1907 as a pre-prep school for ‘delicate boys in need of sea air’. It became a prep school in 1932, and fully co-educational in 1992.

Now, Westbourne is a thriving school with a High Performance Learning (HPL) World Class School Award. Westbourne has full time, weekly and flexi boarders from Years 3-8 residing in one of the 7 Boarding Houses: Main House, for children in Years 3-6; Dower House & Beeswing for Year 7 girls; Shopwyke and Middle Lodge for Year 7 boys; Pear Tree Lodge for Year 8 girls, and Orchard Lodge for Year 8 boys.

Facilities within the 100 acre campus include a lake within the grounds (offering kayaking and canoeing), a 9-hole golf course, 25 metre indoor swimming pool, dance studio, climbing wall and extensive sports pitches for football, rugby, hockey and cricket and rounders – and more. The curriculum at Westbourne House extends to include ventures such as ceramics, science experiments, field trips, poetry, debating, and kayaking – among many other activities. Academic subjects are taught by specialist teachers, and a key part of the curriculum is a focus on study skills – useful in preparing students for further education from a fundamental level.

The Nursery caters for boys and girls aged 2 and ½ to 4 years old. The pupils enjoy Forest School, and time in the garden immediately adjacent to the Nursery. In their final term of Nursery, children are introduced to swimming in the pool with a specialist teacher; one way in which the school prepares them for the transition to Reception.
