Situated upon 150 acres in Kent is Tonbridge School, a day and boarding school for boys aged 13 – 18, founded in 1553. Tonbridge has a very competitive admissions process, and the school recommends families to register for their son’s admission when he is in Year 5 (age 10).

Tonbridge “encourage[s] boys to be creative, tolerant and to strive for academic, sporting and cultural excellence.” Facilitating this goal of excellence is the School’s extensive campus and the facilities within. With three Astroturfs, a Swimming Pool and Sauna, a Sports Hall and an Athletics Track, Field and Pavilion, the boys have a wide range of Sports Facilities for the 20-plus different sports played. For Music, pupils can make use of two recital halls, a suite of teaching and practice rooms, a music library, a sound-isolated percussion and rock suite, and a well-equipped double recording studio. In the School’s Chapel, there is a four-manual Marcussen organ.

Tonbridge comprises seven boarding Houses and five day Houses, allowing all students to be fully embraced into the school community. Each House comprises a Housemaster with a supporting team of Matrons, and team of Tutors. Beyond this provision, their pastoral care comprises a 24-hour on-site Medical Centre, the Chaplaincy, a dedicated School Counsellor and the boys’ own support networks, such as an Anti-Bullying Council. The school has an impressive and unique array of extracurriculars, including Beekeeping, Conservation – in which boys can rear pigs – and Rocketry (to name but a few).

Tonbridge is ‘fiercely academic without the heat of London’ (Talk Education). Leavers progress to prestigious universities, with a very successful Oxbridge tradition – though global universities are also popular. The school offers onsite SAT training, with boys successfully achieving entrance to Harvard, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Many students head to more global institutions such as Australia, Europe, and Hong Kong.
