Godolphin and Latymer is much decorated of late – in 2023, it was named both Sunday Times IB School of the Year and London Independent Secondary School of the Year. It has been on quite a journey to reach where it is today. The Godolphin School was founded in 1861 as a boys’ boarding school. Then, the school’s location was the fields by the Thames in Hammersmith. In the years since, the city has grown up around the once semi-rural site, but it still benefits from more space than the most central schools. After the boys’ school failed, it was re-created as a girls’ school in 1905 and has thrived ever since. A modern on-site sports centre and music facilities have been added in the last 20 years to bolster the school’s strong co-curricular offering. It is known for its embrace of diversity in the student body – both in terms of background and approaches to learning – as well as cultivating a sense of civic responsibility. Academic results are very strong, and sixth-form students have the choice between the IB and A Levels.
