Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate is situated in North Yorkshire, boasting a 200 acre estate. QE’s is a leading independent co-educational school, with students from the age of 3 months to 18 years old. The Collegiate’s motto is ‘to be the best that I can, with the gifts that I have’.

Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate comprises four schools. Chapter House is for pupils from 3 months to Year 5. King’s Magna is for students in Years 6-9. QE’s two senior schools are The College and The Faculty. Both accommodate students from Years 10-13. The College is academically selective, and offers the traditional academic routes of GCSEs and A-Levels for higher education. The Faculty offers ‘a personalised pathway of academic, creative, or vocational courses’ in preparation for higher education or employment. Queen Ethelburga’s offers enrichment programs such as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE), Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and more.

There are 12 boarding houses within Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate, with around 75% of the school body as boarders rather than day students. Boarding works on a vertical model for Years 7-10. For the Upper Collegiate, the boarding provisions are known as Court Apartments: for boys, the houses are Skipton, Bolton and Allerton (Y11, 12 and 13 respectively), and for girls, Rievaulx, Whitby and Selby (Y11, 12 and 13 respectively).

Facilities at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate are certainly impressive. For sports, the school boasts its own Sports Village, comprising a 25-metre swimming pool, triple court sports hall, gym and specialist studios in addition to the 200 acre campus with extensive fields. QE’s has six ‘Performance Sports’: Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Netball and Swimming, for which students benefit from higher coaching and further opportunities. Performing Arts facilitate budding aficionados with The King’s Theatre, seating 300.

The Faculty’s mainstream curriculum comprises A Levels, GCSEs, and Key Stage 4 (Y10/11) and 5 (Y12/13) BTEC courses. In KS4, there are core courses of Mathematics, English Language, the three Sciences, Physical Education, and Personal Development. Students can then choose three additional subjects. In KS5, students can either follow A Levels, BTECs or a combination of both.
