Stafford Grammar School is an independent school for girls and boys aged 3 – 18. We offer an inspiring curriculum, a wide-ranging extra-curricular programme (‘SGS Extra’) and a caring community where our students are known as individuals. There is a warm family atmosphere at Stafford Grammar School, and a real sense of fun! Our school is a very special place. Our pupils support each other and form life-long friendships across year groups as well as with their own classmates. There is a real sense of belonging at Stafford Grammar School, where our pupils grow in confidence and are comfortable being themselves. Stafford Grammar School benefits from hard-working and dedicated teachers who go the extra mile to support our pupils and ensure that they make excellent progress. We are a forward-looking school with traditional values. But we are not trapped by our history and we do not confine our pupils in an academic hothouse. We get to know all of our pupils as individuals and we build their confidence. This is how we nurture successful, resilient, respectful, community-minded and caring individuals who can make a difference in the world around them. This is the ethos by which we live and learn.

Notable Academic Facilities

Our pupils have use of a number of buildings, from our beautiful main building designed by the Victorian architect, Augustus Pugin, to a block of bespoke built science laboratories, as well as teaching blocks, and an Art and DT block.

Wellbeing & Pastoral Care

Unusually for a day school we have on-site school nurses at all times who have their own area to offer both physical and well-being support. They have use of kitchen facilities to offer a hot chocolate and sofas for informal conversations. Alongside this we also have our Head of Pastoral support who again has her own kitchen facilities and soft furnishings to offer a supportive ear to any pupils who need support. Our system of tutors and our House structure means that pupils have numerous points of contact, and have a designated member of staff to oversee them pastorally. Being a small school of just over 400 pupils from 3 to 18 means we know our pupils exceptionally well, benefiting from fantastic pupil to teacher ratios.

Advice For Parents

We would recommend parents get in contact around 2 years prior to entry, but contacting us 1 year prior to entry would still allow a normal admissions journey. We do however accept candidates at any stage, including for immediate entry, should we have space within a year group.

Typical Child

We welcome children who have academic potential, who are also keen to get involved in all aspects of school life, including sport, music, art, drama, as well as our leadership programmes and well-being initiatives. We are looking for well rounded individuals to join our family-feel environment.

Financial Assistance

Free before and after school care, free prep school lunches, Governors Award, Flexible payment options

Highly Regarded For

Our music provision is outstanding, with 40 concerts per year, 26 instrumental tuition options, and 203 instrumental lessons per week. This is alongside a fantastic sports department offering 15 sports options on 38 acres of land. All of this, whilst maintaining excellent academic performance in a friendly and welcoming environment. We are known for having genuinely happy and friendly children who are proud to attend Stafford Grammar School.

Notable Points

We have a full time designated SENCO in both the Prep and Senior School, and we have created a specialist SEN work room where pupils who need additional support meet with specialists to work on their particular areas of need. The area is warm and comforting with soft furniture and a light space to create a welcoming, caring and relaxing environment, building trust between pupils and staff to ask for help.
