Established in 1982, St John’s Wood Pre-Preparatory School educates both girls and boys aged 3-7. Places are offered subject to availability ‘and whether the School feels that the child’s development is in-line with the School’s expectations.’ St John’s Wood Pre-Preparatory is an academic school, and values the social, moral and cultural development of children to establish a successful, balanced and positive approach to their education.

Pre-Reception at St John’s Wood Pre-Preparatory School educates children through an amalgamated curriculum of the Montessori Method of Education and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework. Year 1 adopts a theme-based approach to learning, transitioning from the play-based curriculum of Reception into a more formal based curriculum.

To prepare for learning in Year 2, St John’s Wood Pre-Preparatory School utilises kinaesthetic, visual and oral aides for more stimulating and enjoyable lessons for the children. Learning in Year 2 aims at increasing the children’s confidence before they take the 7+ entrance exams.

There are visiting specialists in Drama, Music, Chinese Mandarin, Chess, and Wild Learning/Forest School, and dedicated coordinators in both English as an Additional Language (EAL) and Special Educational Needs (SEN). An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is available in consultation between the class teacher and the parents and pupil. The team at St John’s Wood Pre-Preparatory School also include Designated Safeguarding Leads, First-Aiders, and a Mental Health Supervisor.

Leavers of St John’s Wood Pre-Preparatory School go on to establishments such as St Anthony’s School for Boys, City of London School for Girls, Bute House and Westminster Under School.
