St Anthony’s Preparatory School is an independent school for boys aged 4-13, situated in Hampstead. It is a member of the IAPS, or Independent Association of Prep Schools.

St Anthony’s was founded in the Victorian era by Richard Patton, in Eastbourne. The school was established in its current location in 1952 by Anthony Patton. Upon his death in 1963, he was succeeded by his son, Tim, a ‘pioneer’ to whom the school accredits their current reputation. In 2009, the Alpha Plus Group took ownership of the school. St Anthony’s maintains their Roman Catholic faith, which underpins life at the school, ‘whilst welcoming boys from other religious traditions or none’. Holy Mass is celebrated once a term, and offers preparation for children to receive their First Holy Communion.

Co-curriculars include Chess, Swimming, Minecraft, Lego and Robotics amongst many others. St Anthony’s follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum in the younger years. The curriculum from Reception onwards places emphasis on ‘exploratory’ learning, allowing boys to become ‘active agents’ in their learning. From Year 3, the school also develops pupils’ Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning in preparation for the competitive senior schools’ admissions, at both the 11 Plus and 13 Plus examinations. Leavers typically progress onto such schools as City of London School, Downside, MTS (Merchant Taylors’ School), Wetherby Senior, and Westminster.
