St Andrew’s Berkshire is an independent coeducational school for children aged 3-13, founded in 1934. The school offers flexi boarding to students from Monday to Friday. St Andrew’s values are ‘Be kind’, ‘Dare to think differently,’ and ‘Be your best self’.

The school is housed in a grand Victorian mansion, built in 1885 as ‘Buckhold House’. It was designed by renowned architect Alfred Waterhouse, whose other architectural accomplishments include the Natural History Museum and Pembroke College at Cambridge University. The school has a strong Christian tradition (though “pupils from all religious faiths, and none, are welcome”). As such, there is Chapel every Friday for students in Years 3-8, accompanied by the Chapel and Junior Choirs.

St Andrew’s has a ‘sports for all’ mentality, wherein boys and girls can play together regardless of age or ability. The school’s campus of 54 acres holds ten football pitches, seven cricket pitches, five netball courts and a cross country course among other facilities such as the full-sized all-weather Astro-turf pitch. There are over 40 co-curricular clubs, which change each Term, available across Prep and Pre-Prep.

From Year 5, all subjects are taught by specialist teachers. The school has a scholarship group in Years 7 and 8, which entails additional lessons in Year 7 for English, French, Latin and Reasoning (and Maths for especially able students), and exam-oriented preparation for Year 8. St Andrew’s Berkshire has a strong scholarship reputation. Leavers progress predominantly to Bradfield College, Downe House, St Edward’s Oxford, and Radley College to name a few.
