The Southbank International School was founded in 1979, and is the first school in the United Kingdom to offer all three of the International Baccalaureate programmes. One of its three campuses located across five sites, Westminster, comprises three of those sites in central London – Portland Place, Conway Street and Cleveland Street – all of which are within five minutes’ walking distance of each other. With Portland Place being opened in 2002, Conway Street in 2007 and Cleveland Street in 2018, Westminster is the most contemporary of its sister campuses.

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme for ages 11-16 is followed across all three sites, predominantly at Portland Place, whilst Diploma Programme students, aged 15-18, attend classes at Conway Street and Cleveland Street. Each site boasts extensive facilities, all of which include laboratories for science, design, and design technology. Students can access a music room, an art room, a theatre and a sizable library. The class size averages 13 students, allowing for an optimised teaching and learning experience, and encouraging more frequent collaboration between students. There are (for the academic year 2022-2023) 299 students in Grades 9-12, representing 54 nationalities. Over 20 languages are offered at Diploma level, including Chinese, Russian, Spanish and Norwegian. Students are awarded an IB Diploma for a score of at least 24 points out of the 45 available. The Westminster campus students are able to access sports and games facilities across London, and can be transported by bus to a sports centre in Kilburn, which was purchased and refurbished by Southbank in 2012.
