Sedbergh School is an independent co-educational boarding-only school for pupils aged 4-18. It was founded in 1525 and offers a traditional boarding experience. Key components of this include the very strong house system – each of the six boarding houses has its own library, common room and dining room – and the excellent extracurricular activities offered. In addition to sport, drama and music, the school offers Combined Cadet Forces and the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which help pupils develop discipline and independence. The school has a large sixth form (around 200 pupils), most of whom go onto their first-choice university. Academic progress is very strong. The school was rated ‘Excellent’ for both academic achievement and personal development by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in 2017. The school is quite remote and is located in the beautiful countryside between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
