Queenswood is a progressive boarding and day School for around 420 girls, aged between 11 and 18, where boarders make up roughly half of the School. Situated in Hertfordshire on the outskirts of London, the School occupies a beautiful 120-acre site. Within a caring and supportive framework, the girls enjoy a dynamic academic curriculum, supported by a diverse and exciting co-curricular programme. Queenswood is a community where girls achieve outstanding results, both in and beyond the classroom. The opportunities for growth and development for boarders and day girls are extensive, exciting and fun.

Wellbeing & Pastoral Care

We believe that our girls’ academic achievements are intrinsically linked to their wellbeing and happiness at school; to quote our Principal – Mrs Jo Cameron - “Happy girls are successful girls.” Pastoral support for all pupils is provided in a variety of ways. Daily tutor time is used to share important information, give time for discussion and extend learning opportunities. Chapel services, delivered by the School Chaplain, provide a pause for reflection and contemplation whilst Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic Education (PSHCEE) lessons enable girls to develop the knowledge and skills for resilient, healthy and happy lives. Pupils may also discuss any pastoral issues with our resident School Counsellor or Independent Listener.

Typical Child

We look for girls with good academic ability who will also throw themselves into the vast co-curricular opportunities on offer at Queenswood. It is also important to us that they come with a positive attitude and the potential to develop the softer skills of teamwork, leadership and public speaking. As a school known for our Sports, Music, Drama, Dance and Art, we also seek girls who excel in these fields.

Highly Regarded For

Queenswood is an all-round school with an impressive academic track record; it has a reputation for excellence in Music, Drama, Dance, Art and Sport. The school is known for its exceptional pastoral care and happy, purposeful atmosphere. The ‘Queenswood Qualities’ of creativity and resourcefulness, courage and resilience, curiosity and reflectiveness underpin every aspect of the girls’ education.

Notable Points

We pride ourselves on our child-centred approach to learning in which every child matters. This is why we achieve such added value for the girls, enabling them to gain better grades at GCSE and A Level than they were predicted to achieve when they entered Queenswood. We offer a modern, dynamic approach to personalised learning in which we deliver tailored support through our subject teachers to our girls, often while they remain in their classrooms. This is in addition to 1-2-1 support to stretch those at the top end of academic achievement, as well as those requiring support in certain areas.

Leavers' Attainment

https://www.queenswood.org/learning/results-and-leavers-destinations/. The most recent ISI inspection report (2017) found that ‘pupils’ attainment is outstanding’. Queenswood girls excel academically; the grades they achieve at GCSE are consistently around one grade higher in every subject than would be expected at an average independent school. Over the last five years, 60.4% of GCSE grades were awarded 9–7 or A*-A. The Queenswood Sixth Form is a diverse and dynamic learning environment. In addition to a broad range of A-Level subject choices, girls study for the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), supplementing their education with a range of valuable skills, much prized by universities. Sixth Formers achieve impressive exam results and over the last five years, 70.1% of A-Level grades were awarded A*-B. In 2020, Queenswood girls gained 11.5% more A*-A grades at A-Level than at the average independent school and the average UCAS points score for Year 13 was 148 – equivalent to AAA plus half a grade. This ensures most girls’ progression to Oxbridge, Ivy League and Russell Group destinations in a variety of subjects.

Leavers' Destinations

Most girls progress to Oxbridge, Ivy League and Russell Group destinations in a variety of subjects: from English to Engineering; Classics to Chemistry; Business to Biomedical Sciences. Over the last five years, over 27% of Queenswood students secured places at Oxford, Cambridge, Durham and London Universities.
