King Edward’s Witley is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for students aged 11-18. The school encompasses a 100-acre campus in the Surrey Hills.

Prior to 1553, the school was formerly Bridewell Palace before Nicholas Ridley, the Bishop of London, persuaded King Edward VI to create The Bridewell Royal Hospital. In 1860 it then became King Edwards’ School, ‘for the training and education of the poor’, occupying its current site in 1867. This founding purpose underpins the school’s ethos as “A place to lodge Christ in”.

King Edward’s boarding comprises eight School Houses. For students aged 13-17, Edward, Grafton, Ridley, and Wakefield are the Boys’ Houses, and Tudor and Elizabeth the Girls’ Houses. For First and Second Form students (Y7 & 8), both boys and girls, there is Queen Mary House, and the coeducational Upper Sixth Form (Y13) House is Jubilee. The school offers full, weekly and flexi boarding.

There are over 50 extracurricular activities and societies proffered throughout the year, ranging from boxing fitness and fencing to chess and yoga. Students can also participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE). Pupils in the Sixth Form can choose to follow either A Levels or the International Baccalaureate. Popular leavers’ destinations include Cardiff, Durham, Loughborough and QMU.
