James Allen’s Girl’s School, commonly known as JAGS, was established in 1741 and is the oldest independent girls’ school in London. It moved to its current site in Dulwich in 1886. The school boasts a rich history – it was the first school in the UK to have a dedicated science lab, and budding musicians at JAGS were once under the tutelage of composer Gustav Holst. Academically, it is among the very best girls’ schools in London, alongside City and St Paul’s Girls’. Recent investment in the facilities includes a new swimming pool, outdoor sports pitches, a music centre and state-of-the-art teaching block. JAGS was named London Independent School of the Year 2024 by the Sunday Times.
