Founded in 1878, Ipswich High School is a leading independent school in Suffolk, providing a through education for boys and girls from Reception to Sixth Form. Located at the heart of an 87 acre private estate, the school has long enjoyed a high profile across the region and is much respected for both its consistent academic success, and for its superb pastoral care and enrichment programme. Providing a home-away-from-home experience, the school welcomed its first boarding in September 2019, following the ambitious refurbishment of The Dairy House. The second phase of the boarding house development project was completed in January 2021 when the former cattle barns were converted in to high-end, hotel-like boarding accommodation, The Barns, with an additional 20 twin and single en suite rooms, a large social space and a stylish cinema room.

Notable Academic Facilities

Our large, contemporary teaching block houses dedicated areas for each subject. You will also find a library here, as well as our Learning Resources Centre in which our Careers Programme is run. Our Year 12 and 13 students have their own Sixth Form Suite in Woolverstone Hall. Here they enjoy university style lessons, as well as socialise in their break out spaces and own coffee shop.

Wellbeing & Pastoral Care

“Pastoral Care is just as important as our academic and enrichment provision, and sits alongside them to ensure that each pupil receives a broad, balanced education in a supportive and positive environment.” Mr Howe, Head There is an incredibly experienced Pastoral Team here at the school. They work closely with parents to ensure all pupils are fully supported throughout their school experience. The team includes: the Head, Deputy Head, Head of Senior School, Head of Sixth Form and Head of Prep School, as well as the Heads of Year, Form Tutors, and the School Nurse. Our ‘small school’ feel ensures that each pupils is known, valued and cared for as an individual.
