Notable Academic Facilities

Halcyon’s school library is a vibrant hub for learning and exploration. During school hours, students can enjoy a cosy onsite library, perfect for browsing and reading. The library truly excels with an extensive online catalogue, accessible 24/7 from anywhere in the world. Additionally, every student receives membership to the Westminster Library, granting them both online and in-person access to a vast collection of books and academic journals, ideal for their research and academic pursuits.

Their Mother Tongue Programme offers their students a way to connect with their linguistic heritage and home culture as they take their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to a higher level. They currently offer a range of over 10 Mother Tongue languages including French, Swedish, and Japanese – they can adjust these options in response to students’ needs.

Wellbeing & Pastoral Care

Halcyon’s Wellbeing Programme is designed to offer an exceptional, student-led experience grounded in a positive approach to wellbeing. Halcyon prioritises a human-centred approach, ensuring that all aspects of the school are built on strong, relational foundations. The Wellbeing Programme at Halcyon offers the following elements as part of its human-centred approach:

- Restorative Practice: An approach to ‘behaviour and discipline’ that builds healthy, respectful relationships. Through structured dialogue students are able to resolve conflict and encourage students to take personal responsibility.

- Mentoring: As trained cognitive coaches, teachers are paired with a mentor, holding at least 15 minutes of private conversation together each week.

- Mindfulness: All Halcyon teachers are cognitively trained and embed mindfulness practices into classroom lessons to encourage effective/focused learning.

- Counsellor: A school counsellor is available two days a week to support student mental health.

SEN Information

Halcyon has a dedicated Learning Coach who liaises with parents/carers, and other relevant professionals to determine whether a student has an additional learning need, what these needs might be, what outcomes might be expected, and what provision would be needed to support the student.

Advice For Parents

Halcyon recommends that parents first explore the website to gain a sense of its ethos and community. If they feel the school may be a good fit, they are encouraged to get in touch to arrange a visit or an online meeting to learn more.

Sports

Halcyon's central London location means it can use London as its playing field. Halcyon utilises London's exceptional sports facilities, such as its own Stern Hall, Hyde Park, Marshall Street, Regent's Park, Little Venice Sports Centre, Paddington Recreational Grounds, and Jubilee Community Leisure Centre. This ensures students have access to high-quality venues, promoting a balanced and engaging school experience.

Art

Halcyon’s vibrant studio space offers diverse media and materials, fostering creativity as students build their course process portfolios in an inspiring space. Halcyon displays student artwork throughout the building, infusing its wider environment with the creativity, joy and individuality of the studio.

Drama

Halcyon’s Stern Hall features a stage used for music and theatrical performances, as well as school assemblies. The school also offers dedicated classrooms for theatre arts. For larger productions—such as school plays and musicals—Halcyon books a professional venue, where it hosts its performances.

Music

Students have access to a wide range of instruments in school, for use in lessons as well as through our peripatetic classes. Students follow a varied digital curriculum including learning how to use Logic, the industry-standard music production software.
