Gordonstoun is a co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 4 to 18. Located on an extensive estate in Moray, Scotland, it is well known for educating British royalty, most notably Prince Philip and King Charles. The school has a strong focus on ‘outdoor education’ intended to develop resilience and independent thinking – activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and sailing are common and encouraged. In recent years, greater emphasis has been placed on pastoral care in the boarding provision and this was praised in its most recent inspection report.  Although the school is Scottish, it follows the English A level curriculum. Academic attainment and progress are good, though academic results are only one part of the Gordonstoun ‘character education’ programme that also includes extracurriculars such as sport, music, drama and ‘international service’ (charitable initiatives overseas). Please note that the school is remote and a long way from London.
