Term Dates

Situated in the heart of South Kensington, a stone’s throw from The Natural History Museum, Glendower is a nursery, pre-prep and prep school for girls. Main entry points are nursery, 4+ and all girls leave following the 11+ in Year 6. Glendower also offers occasional places in all year groups from Reception to Year 5. Early registration is recommended as there are only 36 places available at 4+ admission each year – pupils join Reception from a wide range of nurseries in London, including Glendower’s own nursery, Little Glendower. Families living overseas are also welcome to apply. Admission is academically selective and there is two form entry into Reception, consisting of two classes of 18 pupils. With up to 7% of students on full bursaries, the school is inclusive of the local community. The school was founded in 1895 and has a cohort of around 270 girls, who come from a range of international locations, but the feel is resolutely English. Under the leadership of Headmistress, Mrs Kingsmill Moore, the curriculum is wide ranging and progressive – girls start coding in Reception and Mandarin from Year 4. The focus is on building strong academics, whilst enabling each pupil to achieve her own personal best and develop her interests. The facilities are first class, oozing style and warmth, we particularly liked the oak panelling in the offices. The girls we met were forthcoming, bright (literally so, in purple uniforms) and bubbly and very keen to tell us what they were doing and how much they enjoyed school. There is an outdoor play area, dedicated to the school, about a quarter the size of a hockey field, which is very impressive, and unusual for a central London school. Drama and languages are actively encouraged. Unlike so many London day prep schools, Glendower feels spacious and up to date, with room for everyone to breathe, and learn in an invigorating and inspiring environment. Girls leave for a range of leading senior schools, including Wycombe Abbey, St Paul’s Girls, LEH, Francis Holland and Cheltenham Ladies College.
