Alongside a co-educational nursery for children aged 2-4, Falkner House is a School for girls aged 4-11, known as Brechin Place. It was founded by Flavia Nunes in 1954, who believed that ‘girls and women should be self-reliant and a good education will always stand one in good stead.’ Retaining their history, the school is nevertheless technologically adept; MacBooks are in use across all year groups in the School, with pupils in Years 5 & 6 receiving their own iPad, with a specialised Falkner House programme. From Year 4, all subjects are taught by specialists – a feature of the school, beginning in Reception.

A variety of venues are used for sports, including Kensington Gardens, Battersea Park, Latchmere Leisure Centre, Holland Park, Chelsea or Fulham Pools. Clubs range from Art, and Street Dance, to Programmable Robotics and Athletics. Falkner House is proud of their long tradition of teaching history of art, with frequent trips to the London galleries. There is a wide selection of sports available, and dance lessons with specialists from Chelsea Ballet School.

Entry is by assessment – including for girls who are already in the Falkner House Nursery – with places offered as soon as possible following the assessment process. The majority of Year 6 leavers go onto schools such as Godolphin & Latymer, Cheltenham Ladies’ College and St Mary’s Ascot, with several scholarships being offered. There is one class per year group, wherein they refer to themselves as ‘small but mighty’ – and certainly maintain an excellent reputation. As the most recent ISI Inspection has stated, “the pupils’ personal development is excellent. As a result of the warm, family atmosphere in the school, pupils are able to flourish and develop self-confidence in their abilities.”
