23 Collingham Gardens, London, SW5 0HL
Housed in an elegant, Grade II listed red-brick Victorian building, Collingham is situated in the heart of Kensington as an independent, co-educational GCSE and Sixth Form College. The school’s location permits close proximity to world-class institutions such as the Natural History Museum, Imperial College and the Victoria & Albert Museum, allowing students access to ‘unparalleled cultural and academic resources.’ Years 9-11 are now located in a double-fronted Georgian building just off Kensington High Street following their relocation in January 2020.
There is a permanent SENCo who provides support for a range of difficulties, largely dyslexia, dyspraxia and the autism spectrum. The average class size is five, allowing for specialised individual attention, and also encouraging confidence in class discussions. Collingham offers A-Level retakes, and is a specialist One Year A-Level provider.
As Headmistress Sally Powell states, ‘the focus of the college is academic [as] everything else is here on the doorstep’. Art and Art History groups regularly attend current exhibitions in their visits to galleries; Politics and Law groups visit the Houses of Parliament and the Law Courts, respectively; Media Students are taken to TV recording studios, and the nearby French Institute and Goethe Institute greatly benefit the Modern Languages students.
