Perhaps most instantly recognisable by their distinctive uniform of yellow socks and outer long blue coat, is Christ’s Hospital School, founded in 1552. It provides either free, or substantially reduced cost places to over two-thirds of their students each year.

Simon Reid, Head Teacher of Christ’s Hospital, asserts his vision for the school in continuing ‘to challenge disadvantage through transformative education’. Indeed, Christ’s Hospital is the UK’s leading charitable school and largest bursary charity. The School is one of only four co-educational full boarding senior schools in the country. Across Christ’s Hospital, there are 8 boarding houses for girls, and 8 for boys; final year students live in ‘Grecian Houses’ – separate, mixed boarding houses.

Music is ‘the beating heart’ of Christ’s Hospital School, with over 550 lessons taught each week, and students hearing live music sung or played by their peers on 6 days a week. Singing is particularly strong, and rivals the famous CH Band in popularity in the school. There are, uniquely, five pipe organs on site. Sports is delivered through the School’s Activity for Life Programme.
