Located in immediate proximity to the Barbican and its corresponding station, lie the 7 interlinked buildings which comprise Charterhouse Square School; an independent coeducational school for children aged 3-11. A school of notable academic excellence, Charterhouse Square School follows ‘a curriculum designed to ensure that every class is operating a year ahead of expected for their age group.’

The school is often underestimated in its building size, though boasts six storeys across the interconnecting buildings, is extended by an outside learning deck on the fourth floor, and there is even a small outdoor play area for the youngest children. There is a library, a versatile school hall, and a dedicated space for Charterhouse Square School’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) team; through whom an extensive array of SEN are catered for. Additionally, the location enables the children’s use of the gardens opposite the school in Charterhouse Square, as well as the gymnasium at Golden Lane Leisure Centre and the astro turf pitches at Coram’s Fields (among others).

There is a relaxed, familiar approach to the children’s education; home-clothes instead of a uniform, and students and teachers referring to each other by their first names.

Admission is non-selective, though there is a sibling policy in place. Charterhouse Square School Leavers consistently achieve places at top senior schools, and many are awarded scholarships each year.
